Among controversies related to legal issues in 1997 and 1998 from Barnes & Noble and Wal-Mart, Amazon continued to thrive. In 2000, they came up with their new improved logo. Although the company did not make enough profit during the first 5 years of operation, gradually its online wholesaling business boomed to several degrees.
The US and Abroad
From the very beginning, Amazon was keen on capturing the online market. Its presence could be felt from its online endeavour whereby it achieved licensing for selling commodities online throughout the US. Gradually, their reach furthered till UK and operated retail websites for companies like Lacoste and Marks & Spencer.
Amazon has got their online retail stores in several countries including the US, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia and India. The company has also acquired licensing for shipping its commodities overseas. In Italy alone, they made investments worth $550 million.
With options for Prime membership service in India, Amazon aims to reach out to India's online marketplace. Recently it has initiated talks with Bollywood producers for acquiring permission to sell their content online.
Global Reach and Popularity
