Panasonic Refrigerators and Freezers Aims to Make Indian Homes Even Smarter
Panasonic refrigerators and freezers are always known for their uniform grade-A design and forefront advancements. Hosting alarm systems for the effective monitoring of temperature, they have surely presented both Indian and world-wide consumers with something to be really pleased with.
The Start of It All
Panasonic is a Japanese multinational company which started its journey in 1918. Its previous name was Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. Initially, it focussed on producing light bulb sockets and in 1927, began making bicycle lamps with the brand name known as National. However, anticipating consumer needs and having desire to grow, the company first let out its first refrigerator in 1953, and a year later it launched its B/W television.
Their first model was not exactly a mass appliance as the price was a touch higher. To make it more price-friendly, some tweaks did take place. This had an immediate impact on their overall sales. By November 1960, the production volume reached 230,000 to meet its equivalent market demand.
On 1st October 2008, the company officially changed its name to Panasonic Corporation.
Panasonic refrigerators and freezers consist of a wide global network. They have a vast number of official stores and retailers in North and Latin America, Europe and CIS, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Oceanic regions. Market cap for Panasonic, as of May 2017, is $26.2 billion worldwide. Furthermore, majority of those sales come from home appliances including freezers and refrigerators which is 15%.
Panasonic as a brand has impressive global acceptance. In 2016, the company sponsored the Jaguar Formula E Team and a year later, became the official sponsor of the Lega Basket Series A. All these are ample proof of their acceptance as a brand.
As for their freezers and refrigerator acceptance globally, Panasonic Global CEO remarked, "Consumers enjoy using Panasonic fridges because of its price uniformity design, temp stability controls, energy preserving capabilities. Plus they also prefer Cycle Defrost Functions and Auto Defrost units."
Prospects in India
As per reports, the company has invested around Rs. 115 crore for a refrigerator power plant in Jhajjar, Haryana. In words of Manish Sharma, the CEO of Panasonic India, "This factory will help us perpetrate into smaller towns as demand for freezers and refrigerators is radically surging." Reports also revealed them looking to market 13 million Panasonic refrigerators and freezers in India and make Rs. 600 crore by 2018.
