About Hero Motorcycle
Hero motorcycle continues to be among the largest manufacturers in India, and they look to expand their market share even more over the upcoming years. With a slew of new models lining up, these manufacturers look for more in a growing Indian market while going even more global.
Hero Motorcycle: The largest Indian two-wheeler manufacturers expanding globally
The Indian market is among the largest two-wheeler markets on a global scale as per the sheer number of sales. Hero motorcycle constitutes the largest share of this market which continues to grow and rates as one of the highest potential consumer spectrums around for 2-wheelers.
The Rise of an Indian Two-wheeler Giant:
Although a fledgeling company in comparison to other two-wheeler manufacturers across the world, its inception in 1984 was a milestone in this 2-wheeler industry. The Hero Honda initiation was a joint venture between Hero Cycles and Japanese giants Honda.
The brand name Honda associates to Hero Group belonging to the Munjal family. Heading both Hero Cycles as well as Hero Investments, the Munjal family as well Honda continues to hold onto their 26% each stake on the whole company.
In 2010, Hero planned to go solo by buying Honda's 26% stake from them. This decision came as a result of differences between the parties. Additionally, Hero Honda consists of an independent subsidiary, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India. HMSI also exit the group against a discount as well as a sum of $1 billion.
The result of this demerger is what is now known as Hero Motocorp. The Munjal family finalizes this company via an additional merger with their parent organization Hero Investments. The production of Hero motorcycle solely rests on Hero Motocorp as it stands to this date.
Hero on the Global Scale:
In its Hero Honda days, these manufacturers were only able to export their products within the Indian subcontinent. Although they are the leading two-wheeler manufacturers by numbers since 2001, Hero Motocorp exported their new products to Latin America, Africa as well as West Asian markets. Yet, their most vital market continues to be this Indian consumer spectrum.
Brand Popularity and Characteristics:
Since their inception, their first ever models were a combination of two basic characteristics – fuel economy and low budget. Hero Honda Splendor continues as one of the most successful two-wheelers in automotive history. And it continues as a highest selling bike in this Indian market.
At present, Hero still continues to manufacture latest generations of this low-budget, reliable, commuter-friendly Splendor model. As a matter of fact, it's this overall series of entry-level budget models; which gives Hero their success in this highly value-conscious Indian consumer mindset.
Hero Motorcycle sales in India:
Hero continues to achieve 6 lakh plus sales figures per month. They're also recording a highest ever fiscal quarter sales figure, achieving INR 18.23 lakh plus. Hero motorcycle continues to expand its network which is one of the largest in India competing with that of Bajaj. They further look to expand their exports to sustain their status on the national and global scale.
