AnTuTu reveals Top 10 best performance Android smartphones of January 2018

AnTuTu's January 2018 list of top 10 smartphones based on their hardware performance is out. And on the top is the HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro followed by the HUAWEI Mate 10 and the Honor V10, all powered by a Kirin 970 SoC. The Snapdragon 835 SoC-driven OnePlus 5 lies at the fourth position, down from the number one spot in the previous list.

AnTuTu has been the industry standard to evaluate the performance of popular smartphones and tablets. The performance score that it gives forth hinges on the hardware configuration of a device. It assesses the performance of each aspect of the device including CPU, GPU, UX, memory and more. Then, an average score is arrived at, which reflects the true performance level of the device.

For a long time, AnTuTu has been in the practice of publishing a monthly list of devices based on their performance. So, the top 10 Android smartphones list based on performance in January 2018 is out and surprisingly, it turns out that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC is not the fastest around but rather HUAWEI's proprietary Kirin 970 SoC has earned this distinction with three Kirin 970 SoC-powered smartphones securing the top three slots. The HUAWEI Mate 10 Pro with an average score of 214580 emerges at the top, followed by the HUAWEI Mate 10 with a score of 212841. Both handsets were launched in October last year integrating the brand new in-house Kirin 9710 SoC. The third place is captured by flagship Honor V10 from HUAWEI's sub-brand Honor. The handset boasts of a score of 212557.

In the fourth place is the Snapdragon 835 SoC-powered OnePlus 5 which managed to notch up a score of 211292. The last time it had occupied the pole position though. The mid-cycle upgrade, OnePlus 5T is sitting at the fifth place in the list with a score of 210134. ZTE's nubia Z17 occupies the sixth spot accumulating a score of 208922 and with a score of 206571, the Xiaomi Mi 6 secures the seventh rank.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 earns the eighth spot with a score of 205206. And surprising as it may sound, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and the Galaxy S8+ are down at the ninth and tenth position with a score of 203501 and 199000 respectively.

However, these rankings of smartphones keep on changing every month. Next month's raking will likely change drastically as the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will come into play. It remains to be seen how much performance improvement the new SoC will bring in.
