About Samsung Wave
The Samsung Wave is a line of handsets that are developed by South Korea’s electronics giant, Samsung Electronics. These are smartphones that run on Samsung’s very own Bada operating system.
History of Samsung Wave series
The Samsung Wave happened to be the first smartphone to operate on the Bada operating system. This was first released in April 2010 with the release of the Wave II in the following year. After the Wave II’s introduction in February 2011 three more Wave models were released by the end of 2011.
Popularity in India
The Samsung Wave series are Samsung phones that run the Bada operating system. Moreover, the present day dominance of Android phones over others makes, made it difficult to compete for a notable place. Wave phones found it pretty difficult to compete with Samsung’s own Android smartphones that came under the Galaxy brand.
The phones in the series, which include the Wave 3, Wave M, Y, Wave II, Wave 723 and 525 found limited success with Indian users. These phones were usually introduced for the mid-range user segment in the Indian smartphone industry.
Design of Samsung Wave series
The Samsung Wave series are well-designed touchscreen mobile phones. The handsets boast of a slim build and fit snugly into the hand. They come with a TFT LCD or Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen display. In addition, the screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass for the key phones in this series.
Features of Samsung Wave series
The Samsung Wave series are powered by Scorpion processors and have adequate amount of RAM. Later models in the series also offer more in terms of the processor clock speed and RAM size than their earlier counterparts.
The minimum internal storage varies from phone to phone. This can also be extended further up to 32GB with the help of a micro-SD card for most models.
These devices come with a 2/3.2/5MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front camera (No front fasing camera for lower priced models). This allows call conferencing and the snapping of self portraits. Also certain models in the series offer LED flash, auto focus, smile recognition and face detection, in addition to digital zoom and video recording facilities. DivX and Xvid are compatible video formats. You can even geo-tag photos with GPS navigation.
These handsets, as mentioned already, run on the Bada OS. Bada is Samsung’s own smartphone OS. It offers numerous customized home screens with widgets. A GPS navigation app is available and Bada has its very own app store as well. The phones also come with instant messaging and social networking apps. You can chat on Samsung’s own ChatON instant messaging services. There is support for over 62 languages. In addition, push email can be used for sending emails quickly.
Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface offers simple navigation. For inputting text, there is a virtual QWERTY keyboard. The models support pinch to zoom with the customary dual tap technique of zooming out and back in. The call quality is brilliant and clarity is absolutely great in the Wave devices. There are no hums or noises coming from the other end, with just the voice of the person speaking. The phones also have a compass, a light sensor, a proximity sensor and an accelerometer.
The Samsung Wave series are single SIM phones. For connectivity, the options one has at hand are 2G, Wi-Fi, HSPA (3G) and Wi-Fi Direct. Bluetooth and USB port is available for simple file transfer functionality. TV out and A-GPS features assist users in various occasions. These phones support MP4, MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, enhanced AAC+ media player formats and FM radio.
Battery provided in the Wave series phones is ample and can last long enough to carry one with day-to-day tasks.
Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy J2 as the latest entry-level smartphone. However, the price and launch date is not yet available.
