About Motorola Droid

Motorola Droid

Motorola is a pioneer in the electronics industry and also amongst the world’s most important mobile brands. The Droid series of devices are smartphones that offer innovative solutions and are cost effective as well.

History of Motorola

Motorola was established in 1928 and has since been a major company in the field of electronics and telecommunications. The company was split into two a couple of years ago, namely Motorola Solutions and Motorola Mobility. Google had bought off the consumer products division, i.e. Mobility, and it was again sold to Lenovo. At present, Motorola smartphones are sold under the Droid and Moto brands. These brands are accepted by smartphone enthusiasts far and wide.

Popularity in India

Motorola has had a long presence in India. However, due to its very expensive range of mobile phones earlier, it was not considered a renowned player. Their devices were not widely accepted, unlike many of the Samsung and Nokia products. However, within the past couple of years, Motorola has emerged as a manufacturer of premium quality phones that offer numerous features, despite being affordable. In just about two year’s time, the company has launched some really good smartphones in the Moto and Droid series which captured the attention of users in the country.

Design of Motorola Droid series

The Motorola Droid series are some of the slimmest designed Android phones in the smartphone industry. The latest premium ballistic nylon supported handsets are lightweight and easy to carry. The phones come with a super AMOLED multi touchscreen display, with the exception of the Droid Mini that has a TFT display. With HD/quad HD (for Droid Turbo) display resolutions you can expect crisp photos and videos.

The display screens are 4.3/5.0/5.2 inches in size. These are safeguarded by a Corning Gorilla Glass later. In addition, the water-repellent design protects the phone’s outer surface and the inside as well.

Features of Motorola Droid series

The Droid phones run on Android Jelly Bean and KitKat operating systems. They are mostly powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor (Droid Turbo has a 2.7 GHz quad-core processor) with up to 2/3GB of RAM. Moreover, this device come with a 16GB internal storage capacity (32GB for the Turbo model) but does not come with an external memory slot.

The Droid phones have a minimum 10MP back camera and a 2MP front facing camera. The Droid Turbo, however, does have a 21MP rear shooter. Features such as autofocus, LED flash, geo tagging and digital zoom are supported. Besides this, with dedicated sensors for additional light, the camera turns dim settings into astonishing bright masterpieces. Miracast technology, present in some models of the series, also allows the entire contents of the phone to be represented wirelessly onto a HD Television.

The Droid series of phones offer connectivity options such as EDGE, 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v 4.0, Near Field Communications and AGPS. With the exception of the Droid Turbo that supports GSM, the other three models in the series use CDMA technology.

Batteries are from 2000 mAh, this ensures lengthened usage with a great mix of suitable talk time and standby support. Some models provide an in-built wireless charging facility. Other extra features of these handsets are accelerometer, proximity and ambient light sensors, magnetometer and a gyroscope.
