Spice’s history goes a long way back when the company became one of the earliest Indian brands to foray into the mobile phone industry. They started out by making low-end and cheap feature phones that offered all basic features back then. They released several models under the brand name, before Android’s monopoly began in the mobile eco-space.
Presently, Spice mostly releases Android powered handsets, and also some feature phones from time to time. The Mi and the Stellar series of devices are some of its more famous lines.
Popularity in India
Being one of the earliest smartphone makers in the country, Spice has been relatively well known to the people. They have introduced phones with the latest features and also updated them from time to time.
The company, although not as popular as Micromax or Intex, happens to still be there mainly because it provides phones at a much lower cost. Also, there are many company owned retail outlets in the country that sells phones directly. Thus, Spice has a good market share, although it is nothing extravagant.
Design of Spice Mobile Phones
Spice offers some of the trendiest phones in the country. Despite maintaining the regular slate type form factor for most devices, the company hasn’t shied away from making some unusual designs as well. The company largely uses polycarbonate for the construction of its phones, although metal has also been used in many of the devices.
For smartphones, they feature an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that houses buttons right below. The screen on most devices goes upwards from 3.5 inches to 5.5 inches. For feature phones, the screen size happens to be much lesser, and may or may not have touch facilities. Many of the phones are also known to feature hardened glass from Corning or Asahi.
Almost all of the company’s devices come with removable back covers that also have numerous color options. Regular, as well as trendy color options are available, thereby giving many options to a prospective buyer.

They happen to be powered by modern day processors that have multiple running cores and also come with up to 1GB of RAM. For in-built storage, the phones have flash memory of up to 8GB. These are also expandable up t o32GB via a micro-SD card.
The phones basically run on Android operating system out of the box and largely the more recent versions, like KitKat, Lollipop and more. The user interface is basic stock Android with certain customizations.
Spice mobile devices also have cameras for the rear and the back. These are known to have numerous features as well, like autofocus, panorama, LED flash and more.
