About Dell Vostro

Dell Vostro

Dell Inc. happens to be one of the largest companies when it comes to the making of computer notebooks and desktops. The company, among its several lineups of notebooks, also offers the Vostro series, which are primarily meant for small-scale business users.

History of Dell Vostro series

The Vostro line of notebooks was essentially introduced by Dell in July 2007, and was largely meant for small-scale business users. Prior to this, the company had the Dimension series of notebooks, which were mainly intended for use by business users. However, this lineup was largely scaled down and doesn’t exist today, with the Latitude series being the primary business notebook lineup.

As of now, Vostro basically has two series of notebooks, which are the 3000 series and the 1000 series.

Popularity in India

Dell’s presence in the Indian PC market is truly remarkable. Along with the likes of other foreign brands such as Lenovo, HP, Apple, Acer and more, Dell has a sizeable share of the market on India.

Also, Dell offers nearly all of its product lineups on Indian shores, right from Inspiron models to Alienware and XPS. The Vostro series is also pretty popular considering they aren’t massively priced, but does offer a solid notebook for any entry-level business user.

Design of the Vostro series

Vostro laptops, just like all other Dell lineups, are pretty well designed. They aren’t totally sleek, as the MacBooks, but aren’t bulky either. The weight is roughly around 2.2 kilograms. The build is usually of quality plastic that does offer durability. The outer surface is also largely textured in appearance and resistant to scratches.

The screen on a Vostro notebook is essentially a 14/15 inch one. It is also generally an Anti-Glare LED-backlit display with FHD/HD resolution that offers fine details and great viewing angles. Along with this, you can expect a standard sized chiclet keyboard and a trackpad that allows multi-touch gestures.

One can also expect a number of color options with regard to the Vostro series of notebooks.

Features of Vostro series

Like every other lineup of notebooks from Dell, the Vostro series too makes use of Intel processors. Earlier models often featured the likes of Pentium Dual Core and Core 2 Duo processors, but presently, they all have Core i3/i5 processors. As for GPU, these notebooks rely on the performances of their integrated graphics processor, essentially Intel HD Graphics in this case. For some models though, you can also expect a discrete GPU from Nvidia or AMD Radeon.

Primary memory provided with these devices is essentially between 4 and 8GB, along with an extra slot for expansion. When it comes to storage options on the Dell Vostro, you can get from a 160GB to 1TB SATA HDD.

The Vostro series of laptops are known to run Windows 8.1, which are upgradable to Windows 10 as of now. Further, certain models that run on Ubuntu were also offered. Also, another section of models do not come with any pre-installed OS, but DOS.

Vostro laptops offer good connectivity options. While you can fully expect WLAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, there are also numerous other options such as USB ports, Ethernet port, VGA port and Miracast support. For multimedia features, these notebooks also offer stereo speakers, webcam with microphone and audio headphone jack.

Vostro notebooks come with a 4-cell Li-Ion battery that provides up to 8 hours of average usage on a single charge.

Vostro News

The Vostro lineup of notebooks was last updated in April 2015 with the 3000 series. However, there have been no latest updates about the series of late.
