About TOSHIBA Satellite
The Satellite series of laptops from Toshiba are consumer oriented machines that are available across various price segments catering from entry-level devices to higher-performing multimedia notebooks.
History of Toshiba Satellite
Toshiba was one of the earliest companies that manufactured a modern laptop back in 1985. It was called the T1100. The T1100 came with various features that set the norm for laptops to follow back then. The Dynabook was launched in 1989, which happened to be a lightweight notebook.
The company then went on to release the Protégé and Tecra lineup of notebooks, which was eventually followed by the Satellite series. At present, the Satellite series offers several lineups under its brand. These ones are the C, L, S, Click, Fusion 15 and Radius lineups.
Popularity in India
The Toshiba Satellite series has found numerous takers in India. Students, home-based users and even professionals are the major buyers of these notebooks.
Despite the fact that Toshiba has to compete with several other brands in the PC market, such as HP, Lenovo, Apple, Dell, Sony and more, Toshiba beats many of its competitors in terms of affordability.
Design of Toshiba Satellite series
The Toshiba Satellite laptops are essentially made up of carbon fiber, which assures durability and low weight. They are mostly simply designed and that makes things easy for a user. The Ultrabooks are light in weight and good for those who carry their devices around. You can also look forward to the Radius, Fusion 15 and Click series, which also offer tablet modes.
A number of screen sizes are available, from 12.5 to 17.3 inches (for notebooks). They boast of Toshiba HD TruBrite technology that offers great clarity. Then there’s the presence of a trackpad, which supports gestures and also a backlit keyboard. Devices offering a tablet mode also essentially have a touch-based feature.
The Satellite laptops also come in various colors too and have a great finishing touch to them.
Features of the Toshiba Satellite series
The Toshiba Satellite series has a number of lineups, crafted to suit the needs of customers. The C series represents a basic and essential series of devices while the L series is grade above the former. One can opt for the S series when they are seeking something more than the C and L series devices. The Click, Fusion and Radius series are 2-in-1 PCs.
The notebooks are powered by a mix of the latest AMD and Intel processors. More so, most of the devices excluding the C series have Intel Core i5/i7 or Atom processors. The other Intel processors that are used are the Celeron and Core i3 processors. A number of notebooks are provided with a discrete graphics card, largely one from Nvidia.
RAM availability is from 2GB onwards, for the basic devices, and goes up to 16GB for those that offer upscale performance features. Storage also goes up to 1TB, starting from 500GB onwards. Many of them also have 128/256GB SSDs.
Windows 8 runs on all of the Toshiba laptops and some additional trial software is also provided. Presently, the Windows versions are also upgradeable to Windows 10.
You can expect the usual connectivity options with the Satellite series of devices. They have support for WLAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Ports are also present for USB, VGA, and HDMI connectivity. A Blu-ray disc player is also provided (optional for some devices). You also get a webcam and Mic, speakers and an audio jack.
A 3-cell Li-Ion battery powers the Satellite devices and goes long hours without charge.
