The MacBook Pro is essentially a high-end version of the MacBook lineup of notebooks designed and sold by electronics giants Apple Inc. The other types of MacBooks that are available are the MacBook and the MacBook Air.
History of Apple MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro series was released back in 2006, after which there had been two more generations of these devices. Also, every generation has undergone upgrades and changes as well, mostly in terms of its design and hardware aspects.
The second generation of the MacBook Pro was released in 2008 and the subsequent generation in June 2012. Another major upgrade was the inclusion of the Apple’s Retina Display technology in the third generation of release.
Popularity in India
In India, Apple comes across as a premium brand that offers high-end products. In this respect, Apple product, thought fairly popular, are not very popular among users. The budget-conscious Indian customer has always preferred to opt for more affordably priced laptops offered by the likes of HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Toshiba and many other players. However, such a scenario has been changing of late. With better availability, fair pricing and even discount offers, mainly for students, MacBooks have increasingly gained in reputation and the number of takers in India.
Design of the Apple MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro series have always come in three sizes, namely 13, 15 and 17 inches, with the former two being the more widely available. The 17 inch version appeared in the first two generations of the series and was also discontinued from the next.
The first generation devices of the Pro lineup offered an aluminum body. They also had USB ports and a FireWire port as well. The second generation brought about a different unibody design and happened to be a little thinner. Also, for the screen, there were two options, one being a glossy screen and the other a matte screen offering. The trackpad also appeared a bit larger and included certain additional features. The keyboard on these devices are also backlit ones.
As for the third generation of MacBook Pro, there were apparent changes in its body, which appeared to be thinner. There was also a new hinge for the display and thin bezels as well.
Feature of the MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro series has always made use of Intel processors right throughout. Initially the models came with Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors, which were then replaced by the Core i5 and i7 in the later releases of the second generation models. The third generation models have used Intel’s i5 and i7 processors from Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Broadwell architectures. In addition, the notebooks have always come with RAM that is upwards of 512MB. The present models even offer up to 8GB of RAM. As for graphics processing, MacBook Pro versions have always had AMD Radeon (earlier ATI Radeon), Nvidia GeForce, Intel HD Graphics and of late, Intel Iris and Radeon.
Storage offered by the Pro lineup differs between models and one can opt for their choice as well. At present, storage options come in the form of SSDs that vary between 256GB to 1TB. Earlier models made use of SATA drives. There is also the availability of SuperDrive for reading optical discs, except the third generation models. A camera, namely iSight in the first two generations and FaceTime in the third, is present. Stereo speakers and an audio connectivity port are present too.
As for connectivity options on the MacBook Pro series, there’s Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FireWire (earlier ones), USB, Thunderbolt and more. They come with AirPort cards for wireless connectivity, while the earlier ones also had Ethernet ports. The latest versions also have an HDMI port as well.
Software supported by MacBook Pro notebooks is OS X. Most models can be updated to the latest versions, barring some that run on older releases.
MacBook Pro series comes with battery that gives a good amount of running time on a single charge. Charging ports are the Apple’s patented, MagSafe ports.
