About Apple MacBook Air

MacBook Air

The MacBook Air is a series of notebook computers that are designed by Apple Inc. Besides the other two MacBook lineups, namely MacBook and MacBook Pro, which were the two main lineups, Apple added the MacBook Air series as an additional option, offering portable MacBook for people.

History of the MacBook Air series.

The MacBook Air series was introduced in early 2008, and mainly as a 13.3 inch model. Also, at that time it was the lightest notebook model available. It then went on to receive two updated versions, one in the same year and another in the next.

Another year hence, Apple released another model accompanying the 13.3 inch one. This had a screen size of 11.6 inches. It also came at a relatively lesser price and also in terms of performance. The latest models in the Air series were released in early 2015.

Design of the MacBook Air series

The MacBook Air series is essentially designed as an entry level product in Appleā€™s notebook series. The MacBook Pro is thicker and also high on performance terms while the MacBook is lighter and thinner with its present releases. The Air series can basically be termed as an ultraportable notebook series, which paved the way for present day Ultra books by various other manufacturers.

The MacBook Air is designed to perfection, as is the case with numerous Apple products. In fact, it is thin and lightweight in nature and has a unibody design. The body is made of aluminum. The notebook has a keyboard that is a full size one and also a trackpad that offers many gesture-based functionalities. The keyboard is also a backlit one and is easier to use in the dark.

As for colors, the MacBook Air is available in silver, gold and space gray.

Features of the MacBook Air

MacBook Air series models are powered by means of Intel processors. The initial releases saw the likes of the Core 2 Duo processors. However, at present, all models are powered by Core i5/i7 processors. The MacBook Air models also have graphics processors in the form of integrated Intel HD Graphics. As for memory, a minimum of 2 GB RAM is offered, with newer models having 4 GB. SSDs are the norm for storage options in MacBook Air models, and vary with models. The present releases offer 128/256GB models with an optional 512GB upgrade.

Connectivity is offered via various means. You can expect Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (AirPort), along with the likes of optional USB, Thunderbolt and FireWire adapters to get you going. A 720p webcam is also offered and is called FaceTime (earlier iSight). For music, you have a 3.5mm audio jack and also the dual mics assist you dictate or make calls.

With the latest version of OS X, i.e. Yosemite, everything works like a breeze. You can also sync everything, such as your contacts, photos, music and more, with the help of iCloud. Besides, the App Store is always at your disposal for any other applications that might require.

A MacBook Air essentially offers up to 9 and 12 hours of battery life on average use and a single charge, for 11 and 13 inch models respectively. A MagSafe 2 port is also available as charging device for your notebook.
