About Dell Latitude
The Latitude series of laptops are designed by American computer technology company Dell Inc. as such, Dell has numerous brands of notebooks that serve various purposes, and the Latitude series of laptops are generally meant for business users.
History of Dell Latitude series
Dell was established by Michael Dell in 1984, and released its very first computer, Turbo PC, the following year. Since then, the company has come a long way. In fact, Dell presently features among the top five PC and laptop manufacturers worldwide.
The Latitude series of business notebooks were primarily launched back in 2008.
Popularity in India
Dell happens to a well-known brand in India’s present PC market. As such, it’s Inspiron and Vostro line of notebooks are the most popular choice for a wide range of users, from students to professionals.
The Latitude lineup of notebooks is also pretty popular and finds a number of takers. Many of these models can be purchased from the country’s leading online retailers, as well as normal shops and showrooms.
Design of Dell Latitude series
The Latitude series of notebooks are largely designed for business usage and thus, offer easy mobility. They are usually built to offer durability as well. The general material used in the manufacture is plastic and maintains a sleek appearance. Despite this, the laptops retain their toughness.
There are numerous series in the Latitude lineup as well, such as 3000, 5000, 7000 (Ultrabooks), 6 and Rugged. The screen sizes usually vary and range from 10 inches to 15.6 inches. There are also Anti-Glare LCD/LED-backlit displays offering various resolution standards. A full sized keyboard (often backlit), along with a multi-touch trackpad is offered. Typing is thus simplified and gesture-based controls offer various functionalities.
As for color options, you get black, gray, silver and host of other rich colors. When it comes to the weight, the Ultrabooks weigh roughly around 1.3 kilograms, with the heavier offerings weighing around 2.2 kilograms.
Features of the Dell Latitude series
Dell systems generally use Intel processors and that is also the case with the Latitude lineup. At present, the series is powered by Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 line of processors. Most models rely on their in-built GPU. However, with some models an additional AMD Radeon graphics card is also provided. Primary memory also varies between models and you can expect between 2GB and 8GB of RAM. As for storage options, the Latitude line of laptops come with SATA HDDs that range from 180GB to 750GB. Some models also feature the likes of SSDs, although their capacity is a lot lower.
The Latitude lineup of business notebooks offers numerous connectivity options. Wi-Fi, WLAN and Bluetooth are present. Along with this you can expect HDMI ports, USB 3.0 ports, optional Edocking connector, Ethernet, VGA and optional SIM slot, SmartCard reader and Fingerprint reader.
Multimedia options are also available in these notebooks. A HD/FHD webcam, noise cancelling microphones, audio/mic jack, and quality speakers are present.
Dell’s Latitude series of laptops usually come with installed versions of Windows 7 and 8.1 Professional editions that are upgradable to the latest Windows 10. You can also expect bundled software to be made available along with any purchase.
As for the battery on these laptops, a 3/6/9-cell removable battery is usually provided, and assures long hours of operation on a single charge.
