Panasonic Corporation is a well known Japanese electronics company that is headquartered in Osaka. The company is pretty famous for its diverse range of electronics products ranging from smartphones to home appliances and digital cameras. Panasonic is one of the more popular brands in the market for digital cameras, and is known to produce both compact and digital SLR models.

History of Panasonic Digital Cameras

Panasonic was known to manufacture cameras since a long time, but its digital camera series, i.e. Lumix, was launched in 2001. Two compact shooters were launched initially, which were the DMC-LC5 and DMC-F7.

From then onwards the company released various models to this lineup, adding both compact as well as digital SLRs with innovative features. The Lumix brand became more and more popular and has a pretty decent market share even today. Panasonic has released several different lineups that offer a large variety in choice.

Popularity in India

Panasonic happens to be a very popular brand in the Indian electronics market, mainly for its good reputation and diversified range of products. However, in the camera market, they easily lag behind some of the more popular brands, such as the likes of Nikon, Canon, and Sony.

Although, there are Lumix cameras in use, it isn’t much and also very rare. Despite this, Panasonic sells almost all of its camera models in the country. One can easily find them in retail stores and on online marketplaces.

Design of Panasonic Digital Cameras

Panasonic’s Lumix lineup has compact point and shoots, as well as digital SLR models. For construction, these devices make use of plastic and also metal alloys. Metal bodies obviously have a stronger and durable build. Also, these cameras are pretty light in weight and allow for easy carrying.

Panasonic’s cameras have the usual design aspects that almost all digital cameras follow. The front of the camera has space for the lens, with flash occupying the top or corner position. The LCD screen rests on the back portion, which also has various other buttons for operation. Some additional buttons, such has the shutter button, is on the top. Storage cards and battery space is at the side.

Cameras models from Panasonic often come with many trendy color options. Certain devices also have a very rugged outlook that allows for operation even in difficult weather conditions.

Features of Panasonic Digital Cameras

As mentioned above Panasonic cameras can largely be categorized into two different types, point and shoot and digital SLRs.

From here onwards, there are specific series that allow for various types of specialties. The company’s LS lineup has the cheapest point and shoot models. Then there are several midrange and high-end lineups as well. Many of the camera models allow for good zooming capabilities. These come under the TZ lineup. Ultrazoom cameras make up another line, known as the SZ. If someone is looking for a camera for rough usage, the TZ lineup is one to go by.

For strictly digital SLR cameras from Panasonic, one can count on the lines that go with FX and FZ. Besides, the company has manufactured mirrorless cameras and these come with the G series tag.

For image processing, Panasonic’s Lumix shooters use the Venus engine. These are known to process images up to 21MP resolution. Additionally, the cameras have optical zooming capability up to 30x. The ISO ranges for these cameras largely vary from model to model. Again, these shooters also support full HD recording. Most of the lenses used in Panasonic’s camera models come from Leica or Vario.

Connectivity can be availed in the form of USB, audio/video, HDMI and also Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC for some of the models. Besides this, several other camera features are supported as well and they support all major formats of storage cards.
