About Apple Mac Pro

Apple Desktops

Based in Cupertino, California, Apple Inc. is an electronics company that mainly focuses on the development of consumer products such as phones, laptops and desktops. It is also the largest technology company in the world in terms of revenue.

History of Apple Desktops

Apple was founded in 1976 and its first product was the Apple I, a personal computer. Several other iterations followed over the following years and in 1998, the company launched the iMac desktop model. A number of releases followed in this series and the model went through various changes, the most notable of which were its change to an aluminum design and the shift from PowerPC to Intel processors.

The latest in the series is the iMac Retina Display model, which was released in October 2015.

Popularity in India

The Apple iMac made way into the Indian desktop computer market much later than most of the other common players. Till date, it does have a sizeable share of the market, but that isn’t on a very large scale.

In fact, the price quotient of these iMac’s puts them pretty much beyond the affordability of a normal customer. Hence, people look to settle for cheaper desktop models from several other brands. However, it would be wrong to say that iMac’s aren’t gaining in terms of popularity and finding many takers.

Design of Apple desktops

The iMac is said to be among the best designed desktops that one can find. In fact, its design has bagged many awards from time to time. Over time, it has even gone through some exclusive changes.

They are generally all-in-one models, and that has remained the same. The construction has gone from being plastic to aluminum, with the latest models boasting a unibody design. This gives it a much better look and a modern appeal.

The present releases come with a LED-LCD display that is available in 21.5 (4k) and 27 (5k) inch options. It also has Apple’s Retina Display feature that allows for great quality graphics and viewing. Various color options are also available.

Features of Apple desktops

The earlier iMac models were powered by PowerPC processors until the fourth iteration when Intel Core processors made way. The present releases feature Core i5/i7 processors and are provided with 8GB of RAM. Additional graphics units are also made available from the likes of AMD Radeon. Up to 3TB of internal storage option is provided with the iMac in the form of HDD, flash storage or Fusion Drive.

Coming to the software interface, iMac’s usually run OS X El Capitan or 10.11. OS X is undoubtedly one of the finest to be developed and offers a great many functionalities. A number of applications are available to assist you with day-to-day tasks and more can be found in the App Store. Apple also offers free upgrades to higher software versions, although your model has to be compatible to receive them.

The iMac’s support many peripherals and thus offers connectivity options. There are 4 USB ports, 2 Thunderbolt ports, an SDXC card slot, an Ethernet port and a 3.5mm universal headphone jack. You can also count on wireless connectivity options in the form of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

A Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 accompany an iMac. If you prefer a trackpad then there’s the Magic Trackpad 2 option for you. These are completely wireless accessories and thus, avoid cluttering and save you much needed space on the desk.

You can also find a FaceTime HD camera in these models, along with stereo speakers and dual microphones. These assist in video calling.

For those who prefer mini PCs, Apple has the Mac mini, which comes in a box form factor.

Apple desktop News

Apple recently updated the iMac line with an option of 4k Retina Display for the 21.5 inch iMac.
