Mitsubishi Cars Revving Up Smart and High Sales Figures in India
Japanese automatable manufacturer, Mitsubishi holds one of the largest market shares around. Although losing out to present giants like Toyota, they have a rich history of being pioneers nonetheless. It all looks to change with Mitsubishi cars revving up to make it big again with strong emphasis on India.
A Japanese Automobile Mogul
A far-cry from automobile engineering, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. was one of the largest of its kind in Japan. With roots going as deep in time as 1917, they, however, were the first Japanese manufacturers to come up with a production series automobile.
Named the Model as A, it was a living example of history. Success was not on the cards though, with buyers preferring less expensive American and European models.
Merging with their aircraft division, Mitsubishi's Shipbuilding coalesces to form Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 1934. Becoming the largest private company in Japan, they manufacture heavy locomotives and machinery before releasing the PX 33 in 1937. A revolution, this prototype sedan comes with a 4-wheel drive specifically for military use.
Continuing with this overall pattern of manufacturing till World War II closes shop, Mitsubishi makes their first forays into the mass market starting in 1950 with the 500 sedans. A luxury offering also makes its way as the Mitsubishi Debonair.
1970 witnesses the formation of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation as its stands today. Multiple alliances and liaisons with foreign automobile companies follow, all of them to ensure reaching out Mitsubishi cars to a larger consumer market. As of today, Nissan owns a 34% stake making Mitsubishi a part of the Renault-Nissan alliance.
Mitsubishi on the Global Scale
Globally, sales figures continue to decline with 2016 observing more than 15% decline in sales. Considering their overall re-jig though, this is a not as negative as it looks as per market experts.
The underlying positive is that their new Mitsubishi cars continue to generate positive sales figures. Forecasts conclude these positives to keep on in the same direction. China, USA, and Japan continue to be their primary focus. They are, however, hoping big from a highly prospective Indian consumer market.
Under the Renault-Nissan alliance, Mitsubishi is noticeably heading in new a direction. They already are one of the leading brands for 4-wheel drive technology. The market, however, is moving into the crossover segment; thus, their Outlander model. Mixing obvious oodles of performance along with excellent value-for-features, Mitsubishi is looking into the future smartly.
Mitsubishi in the Indian Market
These Japanese giants bring their Pajero, Montero, and Outlander models into India. They have nearly 70 dealers distributed in more than 50 cities across the country including multiple additional service centers. Mitsubishi cars are achieving a renewed consumer connect without a doubt.
