Jaguar was bought by British Motor Corporation in 1965 and re-formed under British Holdings Ltd. This era marked some significant design and production changes. Overall popularity, however, remained unchanged, and the Jaguar car continued its progressive march.
In 1984, Jaguar went independent again. This move was orchestrated by then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher as a drive towards promoting privatisation. It listed its shares on the London Stock Exchange, and it stayed that way for a short period.
But the company went through another transition when Ford bought its US and UK shareholdings in 1999. From here on, Ford controlled Jaguar's production and distribution channels till the 2008 market crash. During this time, TATA successfully bid and bought majority holdings in Jaguar and Land Rover.
