About Hindustan Motors Cars

Hindustan cars are known for their classic looks, fuel efficiency and robustness. Be it an Ambassador or for that matter India's very own muscle car, they have been acknowledged immensely by the Indian public. Carrying the legacy of the company, one may still find their company's flagship Ambassador running on the streets even in today's time.

Hindustan Cars Continues to Hold a Place in Every Indian Heart!

Hindustan Motors gets labeled as India's pioneer in automobile manufacturing. Their Ambassador, which even today is considered the best amongst Hindustan cars, is still frequently seen as serving taxis or even for transporting govt officials.

It all started during the pre-independence period in Gujarat (1942) but eventually moved over to Uttarpara, Hooghly in West Bengal. It was there and then that HM decided to start the production of their Ambassador. As per records, the company falls under Birla Technical Service Industrial group. Moreover, it stood as the biggest automobile manufacturer in India before the upsurge of The Maruti Udyog.

Over their years of operation, the company gave the nation many memorable models. Along with the Classic Ambassador, they also produced Hindustan 10, taking design cues from the Morris 10.

  • The company collaborated with Isuzu and assembled Isuzu F series of JCS trucks in the year 1982.
  • In the year 1988, the brand gave the country its very own muscle car - The Hindustan Contessa Classic.
  • In 1998, the company made a pact with Mitsubishi (ruling the market in 2000) to manufacture the 6th gen, Mitsubishi Lancer. They continued this collaboration and 2 years later launched the Mitsubishi Lancer in India.

Company Official Retailers

Hindustan Cars is rated one of India's best automobile companies around. Over the years it has given the nation plenty of reasons to smile through their high-quality models. The company always wanted to make themselves easily accessible to their customers. For that, they consist of around 103 company retail stores across all 28 states and UI's in India.

Furthermore, it also consists of a somewhat equal number of 3rd party retail outlets across different sects of India.

Popularity of Hindustan Cars

The cars received outrageous popularity right throughput their operational span. Their Ambassador and their Contessa still rank as among the 2 best locally manufactured/assembled cars to have hit the Indian automobile market till date.

  • In the year 2013, HM managed to sell out around 826 ambassadors! Furthermore, the company also incurred an impressive Rs. 20.36 crore in the December 2013.
  • As for its Contessa, Hindustan Motors manufactured around 20,000 for a fair length of time owing to the dream of many Indians to have a muscle car of their own.

Stature of HM Cars in the Present Day Market

Hindustan Cars are still seen running on the streets of India frequently. However, there are no new upcoming models lined up from the maker's side. News circulates that their iconic Ambassador will now undergo manufacturing under Peugeot. Only time will tell whether it is able to garner the same kind of response as it had to be an HM model!
