About Fiat Cars
Fiat cars continue to be one of the leading driving forces in the automobile industry. With a rich history and legacy of manufacturing legendary models over the years, they are now gearing up for a larger presence in this booming Indian market.
Fiat Cars: A Legacy aiming big for the Indian market
There are few brand names around which one can recall more historical significance as Fiat. These legendary automakers continue to strive and successfully so in a highly competitive automobile industry. Fiat cars are now looking to these fertile Indian soils for reinvigorating their claim as a leading manufacturer.
The Italian Legends:
Giovanni Agnelli founded Fiat in 1899. Fiat stands for "Factory Italian Automobile Turin." Their first model, 4 HP, immediately put Fiat on the headlines garnering a strong response from a wealthy European consumer stratum. Preference instantly shifts towards these Italian automobiles over American ones.
But it was not until Agnelli's visit to Henry Ford's mass production and automation plant that the real boom in the Italian automobile industry takes its annals in history. Continuing their production plant in Turin, Fiat opens up a new plant in Lingotto.
Not only was this Lingotto plant the largest factory in Europe before the World Wars, but it was also one of the few functioning on a mass production assembly line while employing more than 50,000 workers.
Post-WWII Fiat resumes building cars after concentrating on the war effort. Till the oil crisis hit in 1974, Fiat was one of the largest manufacturers in the world competing against the Americans on their home soil. But after the 74 oil crisis, sales hit bottom, and Fiat successively pulls out from the North American market.
Buying into other Italian manufacturers continues all the way through the 90's. And then in 2000, Fiat merges with GM successfully manufacturing quite a few models. But this partnership too broke up in 2005.
Fiat cars continue today as FCA or Fiat Chrysler Automobiles after their merger dating from 2005.
Fiat's Global Stores and Market Reach:
After dropping sales by nearly half from 2009 through to 2014, FCA continues to rise by registering above 12% growth in sales since 2015 and 2016. The largest markets for Fiat Cars continue to be the North American as well as their European home market. But considering that the only positively growing automobile markets are in South-East Asia, Fiat is obviously looking to increase their presence in countries like India, China, etc. among others.
The Brand Fiat:
Fiat resembles a brand image of manufacturing cars which are people-friendly. They concentrate on manufacturing models which will appeal to buyers as the perfect car.
Fiat continues to resort to retro charm above modern styling. As a matter of fact, the only model in Fiat's entourage which continues with positive sales figures is their 500. The idea is a compact car offering the typical Italian retro chic appearance and experience.
Fiat in the Indian Market:
Fiat comes to India with a full range of urban models. Including variants of the hugely successful Punto, other offerings include the Linea sedan along with the Urban Cross and Aventura crossovers.
Pricing their models come up as their biggest competition in a highly value-conscious Indian market. Fiat cars are still looking for a strong start in India spreading through more than 150 dealers across 130 cities.
