A month after launching Panasonic Eluga I2 Activ, the Japanese firm is back with another budget smartphone in the Indian market. In a bid to expand the P lineup, Panasonic has announced a new entrant, the Panasonic P9, in India. The smartphone, priced at Rs, 6,290, caters to the affordable budget segment. Laced with entry-level specs the smartphone has 4G VoLTE support and Android 7.0 Nougat as highlighting features.
The Panasonic P9 in Champagne Gold and Black color options are already on sale in the country via both offline and online channels. Talking about the specifications, the smartphone offers a 5-inch FWVGA 480p display topped with Asahi Dragontrail glass layer. Pumping power from under the hood is a quad-core MediaTek MT6737M SoC clocked at 1.1GHz. Aiding the chip is 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which can further be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.
In terms of camera specs, the Panasonic P9 sports an 8MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture along with a 5MP front facing camera with f/2.4 aperture for selfie buffs. On the software front, it runs Android 7.0 Nougat. Firing the handset is a 2,210mAh battery.
Upon the launch of Panasonic P9, Pankaj Rana, the Business Head of the Mobility Division, Panasonic India, said in a statement, "The P9 is targeted towards consumers who are always on the go, look for durability in the display screen and want a smooth multitasking experience with the latest Android Nougat 7.0".
For other features, the 144-gram handset supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM radio to name a few. The device is armed with two notable features, "Quick Switch" and "Quick Reply". While the former helps users to navigate easily between the recently used apps, the latter feature ensures that users reply to messages without having to completely open the app.
The launch of Panasonic P9 has happened after the launch of Panasonic Eluga I2 Activ in India last month. It seems, for India, the Japanese company, ahead of the upcoming festive season is reinforcing its budget smartphones portfolio. Notably, the Panasonic Eluga I2 Activ is also aimed at the budget segment buyers since it is available at a starting price of Rs. 7,190.
That said, we mustn't forget that the sub-Rs. 1,000 market in India is heavily dominated by the Chinese as well as the domestic players which offer the better specs device at a competitive price. Due to this, the Japanese manufacturer might face a tough challenge in luring the customers in India. But what goes in its favor is the fact that Panasonic mobiles are known for being technologically advanced, especially in the area of energy batteries, security and surveillance.
