OnePlus initially announced its latest and much-awaited 'flagship killer' smartphone, the OnePlus 5T, last November 16 in North America and Europe where it became the fastest selling device to date, taking only 6 hours to break the record of its predecessor, the OnePlus 5. The well-received gadget arrived and started receiving pre-orders in the tech firm's home country, China, more than a week after, on November 28. It is worth mentioning that the device is now already available for purchase in the country beginning December 1 via Jingdong. Meanwhile, we will peer into the statistics of the handset's two-day reservation period and see if it received a warm welcome, as expected.
According to Jingdong, it received over 450 thousand registrations for the OnePlus 5T, proving that a lot of Chinese consumers are interested in the newly-unveiled phone. However, we must keep in mind that the number of reservations does not mean actual pre-orders. While a lot of people are interested, most likely only a small part of them will end up buying a unit. Let's say, half of them will purchase the 5T, OnePlus will still be happy to have initial sales of 225,000 units, only in China. Some of those registered users joined various raffles to get additional discounts, gift vouchers, or even a free unit of the OnePlus 5T as a part of the phone manufacturer's promotional program.
What makes up the in-demand OnePlus 5T? It sports a 6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, an aspect ratio of 18:9, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection. A Snapdragon 835 chipset powers up the device. There are two RAM + storage combinations: 6 GB RAM + 64 GB internal memory and 8 GB RAM + 128 GB native storage. The camera department comes with a dual-camera setup, 20 MP + 16 MP, on the rear and a 16 MP unit for selfies. It runs on Android Nougat and packs a 3300 mAh battery on board. As for the pricing, the OnePlus 5T with 6 GB/64 GB storage combo costs CNY 2,999 (aprrox. INR 29,100) whereas the beefed-up version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage carries a price tag of CNY 3,499 (aprrox. INR 34,000).
