Taking wrap off the Canvas Infinity, Micromax has also thrown its hat into the ring for bezel-less smartphones. The handset is priced at Rs. 9,999 and will be sold exclusively via Amazon India from September 1.
While the high aspect ratio display phones are catching on the trend among the various OEMs, the domestic players were yet to show any signs of jumping on the bandwagon. But now India's largest domestic brand, Micromax, has launched its first smartphone with high aspect ratio.
Dubbed as the "Canvas Infinity", the new smartphone boasts of an 18:9 aspect ratio and is priced at only Rs. 9,999. It is pertinent to note that LG Q6 with the same aspect ratio is priced at Rs. 14,990. The handset will go on sale exclusively on Amazon India from September 1. Registration for the smartphone is already live now.
The Micromax Canvas Infinity is fitted with a 5.7-inch HD 720p display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is in line with the Infinity Display employed by the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. The display comes with extremely narrow bezels on the sides. The top and the bottom bezels are slightly thicker, however.
Another highlight of the Canvas Infinity is the camera unit. At the back, it mounts a 13MP camera sensor with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. The sensor allows users to click images in Real Time Bokeh effect mode. On the front, a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens and soft selfie flash is what the selfie buffs will find it to their liking.
In terms of its hardware, the Canvas Infinity is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC complemented by 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, which is further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. A 2,900mAh battery keeps the smartphone ticking. On the software side of things, it runs Android Nougat out of the box.
As the Micromax Canvas Infinity is the first near bezel-less smartphone from any of the Indian manufacturer, it will certainly turn the heat on other domestic players. Now domestic vendors can't sit idle and will be compelled to come up with similar bezel-less devices. As a result, prices for the bezel-less smartphones in India will further go down.
