Alcatel One Touch
Alcatel is a joint venture company formed by TCL Communication of China and Alcatel Lucent of France. It was set-up in 2004 and manufactures the One Touch series of mobile and tablet phones.
History of Alcatel One Touch series
The first tablet that was released from the company was the Alcatel One Touch T10. Since every renowned phone company needs a few tablets in its repertoire, Alcatel also did so.
Alcatel, during CES 2013 unveiled the One Touch Evo 7 HD, Tab7 HD and the Tab8 HD tablets. At CES 2014, they had launched the Pop 7 and Pop 8 that are 7 inch and 8 inch tablets. In the same year, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Alcatel unveiled three tablets, namely the Pop S3, Pop S7 and Pop S9. The company also revealed the Fire 7, which is the first Firefox OS tablet. An entry-level 4G tablet was also launched soon after. At this year’s CES 2015, Alcatel launched the Pop 2 (10) tablet, which is basically a 10 inch tablet.
Popularity in India
Eariler in the 1990’s, Alcatel was a very popular brand. However, when Samsung and Sony Ericsson were beginning to rise in status, gradually Alcatel had disappeared from sight. Today, with the latest brands available in the country, almost everyone either owns a smartphone or a tablet. The Alcatel One Touch tablets are ultra-thin, ultra-light and fast tablets. With their premium texture and sleek designs, they are pretty nice to hold during usage. In addition, with advanced IPS technology, users can enjoy crispy views at every angle. These TFT capacitive touch screens are protected by Asahi Dragontrail glass. The One Touch series of tablets are also available in various colour options.
Features of Alcatel One Touch series
The One Touch tablets are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon or MediaTek processors and generally come with 1GB of RAM. A minimum of 4GB internal memory is available, which can be expanded up to 32GB with a micro-SD card. These tablets run on Android Jelly Bean, KitKat or Lollipop OS. These tablets come with a rear camera and a VGA front facing camera, which is good enough for video chatting.
One Touch tablets offers a connectivity of 2G, 3G and 4G LTE (on certain models), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB port and more. The batteries are Li-Ion Polymer and can provide up to even 16 hours of talk time on networks models.
The Finnish telecom giant Nokia has announced that the Competition Commission have gave the company the approval for its acquirement of Alcatel’s Lucent.
