The Amazon Fire series are tablets released by Amazon.com. Based in Seattle, in the United States of America, Amazon.com is an international electronic commerce establishment and one of the leading online retailers worldwide.

History of Amazon Fire series

The first Kindle Fire was released on November 2011 in the US. Upgrades were publicized later and the Fire was upgraded on September 2012 to the 2nd generation. It also came at a reduced price. The Kindle Fire HD, which use a much more powerful and video-based edition was offered as well.

The 3rd generation Kindle Fire was an upgrade to the Kindle Fire HD, along with the Kindle Fire HDX both were launched in September 2013. A year later, the Fire HD as well as the Fire HDX 8.9 gave way to the 4th generation Fire tablets only this time, it came without the Kindle name.

Popularity in India

Amazon’s online store began operating in the country in June 2013. At Amazon.in, the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and the Voyage, three of the series’ popular devices are officially available now. It offers serious competition to Apple’s iPad and is primarily preferred as an e-reader. In addition, e-books are available from around the world. At its Indian website, the store presents about 3 million Amazon Kindle e-books. Of these 50,000 are without charge and roughly 800,000 are restricted to Kindle alone.

Design of Amazon Fire series

The Amazon Fire tablet series are not very stylish in appearance, but are well-built tablets. Moreover, these are a delight for those users that utilize their tablets to read e-books, play games, listen to music and watch videos. In some versions, its matte finish with excellent gripping at the back. With different models of release, you can expect screen sizes of 6, 7, 8 and 8.9 inch with IPS technology. The touchscreen, although slightly reflective, are pretty responsive. Many of the models also come with HD display resolution. In addition, they have protection with Corning Gorilla Glass.

Features of Amazon Fire series

Although the Amazon Fire tablet series are Android-based, they run on the Fire OS, which is a customized version. These devices are powered by 1.5GHz/2.5GHz quad-core ARM Cortex processors. Depending on the models, RAM is usually 1GB. As for internal flash memory, these tablets can offer up to 64GB capacity, but cannot be extended. However, a few models that offer 8GB internal storage can be expanded up to 64GB with a micro-SD card. Few tablets in the Amazon Fire series are available with SIM support.

As for the cameras, the majority of Indian models offer only a front facing camera with digital zoom. For connectivity, the Amazon Fire features Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, micro USB, tethering and more. The batteries on these tablets are generally available from 4400mAh and higher.
