About Sony Tablets

Sony Tablets

Sony Corp., a Japanese multinational electronics maker is very well reputed in its field and deals with a wide variety of products. Sony’s tablet series, presently known by the Xperia brand name, are some of the best tablets that can be found in the market today.

History of Sony tablets

Sony’s foray into the tablet market began with the launch two models the S1 and the S2, both of which came under the Sony brand name. These models were known to run on Google’s Android OS Honeycomb, a release that was specifically meant for tablets, and was officially launched in August 2011. Then the Tablet P arrived, which was a little odd and sported a clamshell layout with the screen separated by the hinge.

In the following two years, the Xperia Tablet S and Z were launched. These came with Android ICS version and were upgraded to Jelly Bean. They also featured hordes of upgrades over the previous releases.

Popularity in India

Sony has a very good presence in India’s electronics market and one can find stores available in almost all cities in the country. Sony’s tablet series, however, is not all that much in demand when compared to some of the company’s other products in the market.

Design of Sony Tablets

Sony’s tablets are designed very well, keeping in touch with the company’s design principles. These tablets feature a rectangular form factor and maintain square edges. While the made from mostly plastic, with glossy plastic adorning areas around the screen, it does have a matte back. This means that is provides superior grip during usage. One can also find bezels around the edges.

The tablets have a screen that is upwards of 9 inches and offers HD or higher resolutions. As such, viewing content and videos are a top-notch experience.

Sony’s color option when it comes to tablets is black. They are also fairly lightweight.

Features of Sony Tablets

Most tablets are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon or Nvidia Tegra processors. The later was more prominent in the earlier models. Additionally, these are equipped with 1 to 3GB of RAM, which assures smooth running and operation. For storage, the most widely available option is the 32GB model, but one can also opt for alternatives of 16/32GB as per the choice and availability. A micro-SD slot is also provided for expansion.

When it comes to the OS, Sony tablets run Android versions. While the first two tablets in the series were the first to run Honeycomb, they have been upgraded with further releases of the operating system. Some bloatware and equally useful apps may be preloaded.

Cameras on these tablets are not lagging behind. They come with front and back cameras, mainly with Sony’s Exmor sensors, which offer very good quality images and videos. Even the resolutions are good in all of the present devices.

You can always rely on an Xperia tablet for good connectivity. Numerous options are available. To start with, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi offer reliable wireless connectivity. In addition, the tablets also offer cellular connectivity, with models available that even support 4G LTE bands. Besides this, you also have a regular USB cable, MHL Out, A-GPS, NFC, DLNA and more to broaden options.

The tablets also have IP standard certification up to IP65/68, which means that they are dust and water resistant up to certain limits.
