About Bajaj Pulsar
Bajaj Pulsar is one of the most important products of the Indian two-wheeler market since its inception. This model series alone fuelled a market scenario in this country, creating a separate consumer section of two-wheelers used for more than just transportation purposes.
Bajaj Pulsar continues to dominate the Indian two-wheeler market
The Indian two-wheeler market completely changed after the entry of the Bajaj Pulsar. Before this model, bikes were primarily for easy transportation and an alternative option for cars. But with this Pulsar range entering the market, two-wheelers became more about the experience of owning a bike with enough power to zoom past most other cars on the Indian roads.
Changing the Indian 2-Wheeler Market Forever:
For a market previously limiting itself to 125cc engines and extreme mileage figures, the Bajaj Pulsar was completely something else. Instead of meeting or even trying to meet mileage standards, this series concentrates on performance. Pulsar is Bajaj's gamble successfully paying off. With 13 HP of power, the first variant boasting a round headlamp and a long enough wheelbase to accommodate a pillion hit the market on 2000. Immediately recording highs, the Pulsar was a part of the Indian army contingent – a reflection of its success. Introducing above-average power, it was one of the most reliable products around, clocking up huge mileages with minimal maintenance requirements.
A worthy mention, the Bajaj Pulsar found an instant liking for a more youthful crowd spectrum, thanks to its easy drivability and exciting performance. Its success was already rooted. All that was left for Bajaj to do was continue the legacy.
2003 onwards, the market saw the Pulsar coming with larger engines and technical specs. Additions include a DTS-I setup, oil cooler systems, power specs reading up to 220cc with outputs coming in at near and above 15 HP and so on. Diverging slightly from the passenger basis, Bajaj's inclusion of sports-biking addendums into this series is another vital pointer. The NS or Naked-Sport sub-series includes a liquid-cooling 200cc engine equipping performance revisions pushing power outputs to around 24 BHP.
Top sales series and why:
Continuing from their success since 2003, by 2011, Pulsar easily achieved a 47% market share. Introducing performance into the Indian market was the key and this series continued to suffice, despite facing stiff current competition from similar models from other manufacturers. Clocking bigger engines and additional power, the Pulsar continues the same pattern, of putting power above fuel efficiency. By 2012, this series recorded more than 5 million units.
Expanding the overall consumer specifics, this series now contains sub-series including DTS-i, LS, AS, NS, and RS. Bajaj now includes more than 100 dealers across 50 cities and towns. They have one of the largest networks of service centers among all manufacturers in the country and still look to expand it for achieving a complete national coverage.
Upcoming 2017 Bajaj Pulsar Models:
- NS 160 – This will be a smaller option in comparison to the 200 NS. A dialed-down engine will produce around 17 HP. Pricing will fall in the 80K INR bracket.
- 200 NS FI – A re-run of the previous 200 NS model, this will be a slightly powerful model in comparison to its past gen with outputs around 23 HP. Pricing will be just below the 1 lakh INR threshold.
- RS 400 – This upcoming Bajaj Pulsar variant is one of the most anticipated models. Drawing power from the 373cc KTM engine, outputs of above 40 HP is an expectation. But what will attract buyers is its round 2 Lakh INR price-tag.
