Yamaha Motor Company Limited holds a grand repute across various arcades and as per statistics of 30th June 2014, they were the largest shareholders with 12.21%. Furthermore, Yamaha motorcycle/scooters and motorized bicycles undergo engineering, construction, and marketing in around 109 subsidiaries.
Their seeds of creation- 1955:
Yamaha motorcycle division began in 1955, and their initial production was the YA-1 Motorcycle. Configuration wise it was a 125cc 1 cylinder street roller. Both productions, as well as selling, were done entirely in Japan.
In 1963, Yamaha motorcycles began being manufacturing with 2-stroke engines. 2 years later a 305cc 2-stroke twin-engine the company's flagship, came about. And another 2 years later its upgrade- 350cc 2 stroke twin R1 (a new model with larger displacement) saw the tarmac. In 1968, the 1st if their 4 stroke came out , an XS-1 650cc 4 stroke twin-engine motorcyle.
It was around this time that Japanese manufacturer brought out the legendary CB-750 4-stroke 4-cylinder machine. Right through the 1970s and extending into the 1980s, this 4 stroke reign continued to bring along number less success and race triumphs. In the late 1990s, the introduction of 1000cc 4 cylinder motorbike YZF R1, brought about a new era of performance bikes with off-road abilities.
Global reach and production & sales figures:
Revving hearts in various continents, Yamaha Motor group finds affiliates in European, African, American as well as Asia Oceanic regions.
Their tagline "offering new excitement and a more fulfilling life for people across the world " they sought to expand their global reach since the 1960s.
Statistically, around 90% of their net sales come from abroad markets. Sales breakdown region wise - show 89.3% overseas, 10.7% in Japan, 18.7% in North America, 12.4% in Europe and 43.1% in Asia. And presently, their global extension is such that they have a market in over 200 countries.
Acceptance and global status:
Yamaha Motorcycle units gained immense popularity right throughout its operational span. Right from 1962, they underwent production of Grand Prix motorcycles. And in 1970, they won the 250cc World Championship with their TD2 model with UK's Rodney Gould.
As per statistics of May 2017, Yamaha has a market cap of $8 billion and out of that their motorcycle sales stands at about 63.2 Japanese Yen (57.2 million US dollar).
Their scalability also makes them sponsor several ATV riders in vivid regions. A notable example being their YFZ450 ridden by Bill Balance. Many other notable racers lay their trust upon this company including none other than Valentino Rossi.
Net Global Growth Plan in India:
As per Hiroyuki Yanagi- "the plan to expand products in Indian mass market is what we are aiming for." With close to 60% of the market presence for 2-wheelers, this Yamaha Motorcycle has their eyes set to achieve their target of 12 Lakh units by the end of 2017.
Furthermore, their new manufacturing house at Oragadam, Chennai which will start operating from 2018, the company plans around 4 Lakh vehicles (motorbikes and scooters). Their aim is to attain around 1.8 lakh units by the 2018 fiscal year.
