About Sony Xperia
The Xperia series of phones comes from Sony Mobile, which is basically a subsidiary of Sony Corporation, a worldwide leader in the electronics sphere. This series, which was primarily launched with a phone that ran on Windows OS, eventually moved on to Android and enjoys a successful share of the smartphone market in many countries around the world.
History of the Xperia series
The Xperia X1 was the first phone to be released in the series, way back in 2008. As such, it was primarily launched to counter numerous smartphones that being launched by the likes of HTC, Samsung and Apple. The X2 followed almost immediately in the very next year.
The first of the Xperia series to run on Android OS was the X10. Eventually, this was followed by numerous releases which made the Xperia smartphone brand from Sony a force to be reckoned with.
Popularity in India
Sony has always been a popular brand in the Indian smartphone market. Many of its mid-budget and high-end offerings have appealed to customers and therefore, it isn’t surprising to find a whole lot of people using Xperia handsets. Sony’s brand recognition, as a top most market holder in electronics, is also something that hugely turns odds in its favor.
Design of the Xperia series
The form factor of the Xperia line of smartphones is that of a bar. Essentially most phones of the series are touchscreen-based devices although some of the earlier models featured QWERTY keyboards and in the slider form. Screen size generally varies from model to model. Many phones in the series, particularly its flagship offerings, like the Z4 and Z3+ come with FHD/HD display resolutions. The phones also have Gorilla Glass protection. Xperia phones also come in various color offerings such as gold, black, pink, blue, red and white.
Features of the Xperia series
Almost all of the Xperia devices are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets that offer varying clock speeds. These present releases also feature processors that have dual/quad/octa core processing powers. The initial releases (under Sony Ericsson) in the series often came with less than half gig of RAM. However, at present (under Sony Mobile), most devices come with 1GB, with higher range offerings having 2/3GB. Most of the earlier releases in the Xperia series offered flash memory between 256MB and 1GB. The phones that came later features more memory, with 4/8/16/32GB storage being the most common. These phones also offer an extendable memory option by means of a micro SD card slot.
Sony Xperia phones run on different Android OS versions, except the first two releases in the series. On top of it runs Sony’s custom UI, which is known as Timescape. Timescape also offers many customization options to users and also offers smoothness in terms of usage.
Sony’s Xperia phones have always been known to offer amazing cameras. The rear cameras come in varying resolutions from 3.2MP shooters to ones that go right up to 20.7MP, as in the case of its flagship offerings. Also, most of these offer LED flash, image stabilization, customization options, zoom features and a lot more. Many of the phones also feature a front facing camera.
When it comes to connectivity, the Xperia phones are known to support 2G, 3G, 4G LTE (some recent offerings), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, micro USB and more. Higher-end devices in the series also feature additional connectivity options such as NFC and Wi-Fi Direct. In addition, the phones feature a number of sensors that are necessary for usage.
Battery on the Xperia devices varies from 950mAh to as high as 3100mAh. This allows the phone enough time for daily activities such as calling, browsing, gaming and more.
Sony has already made an announcement that it would be launching a new phone at the upcoming IFA to be held on 2 September. It is rumored that the device slated for the launch will likely be the Z5 phablet.
