About BlackBerry Pearl
Earlier known as Research In Motion, BlackBerry Ltd. happens to be a telecommunications manufacturer, with its headquarters in Ontario, Canada. BlackBerry’s popularity is largely because of its range of smartphones and tablets, and also its highly secure software applications for industries that are even officially used by the US government agencies.
History of BlackBerry Mobiles
RIM was founded in the year 1984, and its first device was called the Inter@ctive Pager 900, which made its way into markets in 1996. This carried on for much through the following years until 1999, when an email pager was introduced on the market with the name of BlackBerry 850.
Since then, the company has gone on to release numerous devices. While the company sales have frizzled in the past couple of years, the company is still remarkably famous for bringing out the first smartphone with a QWERTY keypad and its BlackBerry Messenger application. Some of the popular BlackBerry lineups are Torch, Bold and Curve.
Popularity in India
BlackBerry phones generated huge sales in India, for much through its peak period. It has a very large share of the market too during this time. These phones were often the obvious choice for a large section of business users in the country, as they meant as some sort of a status symbol.
Also, the security and privacy offered by BlackBerry applications, along with its QWERTY keyboard was a huge hit. These were mainly suitable for users that didn’t want a touchscreen, but at the same time, wanted something better than an alphanumeric keyboard offered by numerous phone manufacturers at that time. Although much of the company’s sales have dipped due to the prominence of iOS and Android, BlackBerry has still found a way to survive and is gaining in popularity.
Design of BlackBerry Mobiles
Most BlackBerry phones feature a body that is of mixed construction. Metal, polycarbonate and even a rubberized back are the most common elements here. The BlackBerry logo appears on the back cover and also the name on the top front, right above the screen. A metal bezel around the phone body makes it look attractive.
The screen on BlackBerry phones largely differed. Phones with a QWERTY keyboard and optical trackpad came with a small TFT display while full touchscreen models were also available. BlackBerry’s QWERTY keypad was worthy of note, as it made typing a new experience on phones. Besides, the optical trackpad was something that made navigation pretty easy too. The latest BlackBerry release i.e. Priv, despite being a touchscreen device, even contains a QWERTY keyboard that slides into the body.
BlackBerry phones arrive in many color options, although black, white and silver are the most common options.
Features of BlackBerry Mobiles
BlackBerry’s smartphone range consists of devices that offer premium features. They are equipped by some of the most powerful processors and even come with ample amounts of RAM. Internal storage varies and is offered up to 32GB in its latest offerings. Additional slot can also be utilized to extend storage.
The phones have both front and rear cameras. They are largely reliable shooters and offer many different features such as autofocus, face detection, many different modes, and more.
When it comes to connectivity, one can get the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, along with cellular connectivity. Most models are also known to support 3G and 4G mobile networks at present. USB, NFC, GPS, and Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot are some of the other connectivity features worth mentioning.
BlackBerry phones basically ran on the BlackBerry OS. It was known for its highly secure nature and had numerous applications like BBM and BlackBerry World (for downloading apps). However, after its popularity has faded away, the company has now decided to bring out phones with Android OS.
BlackBerry is set to be working on its next Android smartphone, which has been codenamed Vienna.
