About ASUS PadFone
Asus is a Taiwanese multinational company that is well-known for the manufacturing of numerous gadgets and hardware devices. It is the manufacturer of Asus PadFone series and other line-ups such as the ZenFone and the Zenpad.
History of Asus PadFone series
Asus PadFone was released in April 2012. The Asus PadFone is ideal for people that value both, a smartphone’s voice communication features and also better entertainment prospects through a large screen tablet while preferring to carry only a single device. With the intention of improving battery life and functionality, the phone is marketed with a keyboard dock and companion tablet dock accessories.
On October 2012, the PadFone 2 was released followed by the PadFone Infinity in 2013. In 2014 the PadFone X was released as the PadFone’s latest successor.
Popularity in India
In just a a few months since Asus entered the smartphone market, sudden changes had occurred mainly with new manufacturers of budget smartphones entering and gaining popularity by offering numerous flagship features at very affordable prices. Asus is a new entrant into the Indian smartphone market. However, they do have a sizeable share with their PadFone versions, mainly with the Asus PadFone Mini, Asus PadFone Mini 4.3, and the Asus PadFone S, which are the popular Asus PadFone mobiles. At present, these Asus PadFone smartphones can be acquired from a number of e-tailers in the market.
Design of Asus PadFone series
All phones of the Asus PadFone series are well designed and offer a firm and stylish outlook. Generally, the phones are rounded on the top and bottom leading to a curvish design. This also gives the phone a sense of elegance and appeal.
Usually with every specific model the screen size changes. you can expect screen sizes from 4.0 inch and above on the PadFone line-up. Many also come with IPS multi-touch and full HD displays. The screen also offers protection with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which offers resistant to scratches and can absorb slight knocks that can happen at times.
Features of Asus PadFone series
The PadFone series of smartphones are known to run on Android version 4.0 or up, mostly the Jelly Bean and KitKat OS. Most of these devices are also powered by Intel Atom SoCs (system-on-chip), whereas some others utilize Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets.
These phones pack an in-built memory of either 8GB , 16GB , 32GB or 64GB with an external memory slot expanding the memory up to 64GB with an micro-SD card depending on the model. RAM capacity is only 1GB on these devices. These PadFone also have dual SIM Card slots and 4G LTE advanced technology. The phones can be connected through Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, 3G HSPA+, GLONASS, USB and GPS/A-GPS.
Also, the high-end phones generally feature full HD IPS displays that offer crispy viewing angles. Most of the phones come with an 8MP or 13MP back PixelMaster camera with a bright f/2.0 lens that works without shutter lag and can capture amazingly detailed pictures. They also feature and support LED flash, geo-tagging, touch-to-focus, face detection etc. They also have a 2MP front facing camera and both are capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps.
The battery on the PadFone series offer longevity, they use batteries raging from 1200mAh and higher depending on the model.
Asus has currently stated that it will unite with Overcart.com to sell its refurbished ZenFone’s on their portal. However, details regarding the prices and whether other Asus devices will be sold are yet to be confirmed.
