About LG Optimus
LG Electronics, a popular global manufacturer of numerous gadgets, phones, electronics and appliances is the maker of the LG Optimus series of tablets and smartphones. The Optimus series uses Windows OS or Android OS depending on the model.
History of LG Optimus series
LG’s first Android smartphone the LG GW620 was launched in 2009. The first phone in the series of LG Optimus devices is called LG Optimus GT540, which made its appearance in June 2010. The second phone in the Optimus series was the LG Optimus One and it was released in October 2010. This phone also underwent certain changes and its carrier variants were introduced under the names of Optimus Black/Chic/Chat.
The LG Optimus 7 and the Optimus Quantum or Optimus 7Q was the only 2 Optimus smartphones that were released using a Windows OS.
In 2011, LG launched the company’s first Android tablet. An Android sub-series of phones titled the LG Optimus L was launched in 2012. It included six phones in the first series, seven phones in the second, and ten phones in the third series. In 2012, LG introduced its high-end phones with the Optimus G sub-series, which later went on to become a separate line up as the G series. In 2013, 5 models of the Android LG Optimus F sub-series of phones were also launched. The Optimus Vu was a subseries of devices that featured the use of a stylus. However, with the launch of the third phone in the series, it was spun off as an entirely new line up.
Popularity in India
In India, the South Korean mobile phone producer is a reputable company as far as electronics products are concerned. The LG Optimus series of smartphones come packed with pioneering features and run the Android and Windows Phone OS. At present, there are over 100 LG variants of phones available in the country, out of which a sizeable amount are part of the Optimus series. Flaunting simple user-friendly and advanced features along with Google apps functions, the LG Optimus devices have everything one requires for navigating through life’s journey.
Design of LG Optimus series
The LG Optimus series are budget and entry level devices from LG. These are stylish smartphones that are well-made for regular use.
The LG Optimus series of smartphones come with an impressive IPS display and a minimum 3 inch LCD touchscreen (bigger screens in other models) that features capacitive buttons. While in your hand, its condensed design offers you an easy grip and usage. These phones also come in a number of colour variants.
Features of LG Optimus series
These LG Optimus phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and Texas Instruments’ OMAP processors. They are available with a minimum 512MB of RAM, which is more on certain devices and varies). These devices run on different Android/Windows OS versions and with LG’s Optimus UI (for Android). There is a minimum 4GB of internal memory. In addition, by means of a micro-SD card, it can be further extended to 32GB.
These devices have a minimum of 3MP back camera that even goes up to 13MP for certain models, along with auto focus and LED flash. The front camera is usually 0.3/1.3MP. The back camera can also take pictures through voice commands with the CheeseShutter option. Video recording is possible on these devices and formats like MP4, WMV, DivX, MP3, H.264, H.263 and Xvid are supported.
For connectivity, the phones in the series feature GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP and Wi-Fi Direct. The LG Optimus with A-GPS enabled are available with handy apps and features such as document viewer, Google Maps, YouTube, predictive input and Google search. A few models also come pre-loaded with apps like LG Mobile TV, QuickTranslator and QSlide. Besides, they are available as single SIM, dual SIM and even three SIM slot phones.
Theses phones are powered by a minimum of 1500mAh Li-Ion battery.
In India, the LG G2 is receiving the Android Lollipop update. However, this is available only through the LG PC Suite.
