About Xiaomi Mi
Xiaomi Inc. Is a Chinese electronics company and is the manufacturer of the Xiaomi Mi series of Android smartphones. It is, at present, the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world and is known to particularly develop phones that are mid-range offerings in the smartphone market.
History of Xiaomi Mi series
Back in August 2011, the Xiaomi Mi1 smartphone was the first in the Mi series to be revealed. This model was packed with Xiaomi’s own MIUI, a user interface that runs atop the Android mobile operating system. Xiaomi then publicized its Mi2 smartphone a year later. This was followed by the Mi3 handset with the Snapdragon and NVIDIA’s Tegra processors. At this point of time, it also happened to be the fastest Android smartphone in the world.
The Xiaomi Mi4 is the latest in the series that comes in 16GB and 32GB variants. This Mi series has been Xiaomi’s flagship mobile phone series up to date. A budget flagship Mi4i was also launched in India and arrived in 16GB and 32GB variants in May.
Popularity in India
The Indian mobile smartphone market is essentially viewed as a competitive and growing one. It is also the second largest market after China, worldwide.
Xiaomi has been among the latest of entrants among the Chinese mobile manufacturing companies in India. In spite of a whole lot of international and local brands, Xiaomi has dominated large portions of the market. They mainly offer mid-range smartphones that are sold at affordable prices and under a flash sale basis with India’s online retailers. In India, the most popular MI series of smartphones are the Mi 4, the Mi 4i, and the Mi 3 models.
Design of Xiaomi Mi series
The Xiaomi Mi series of handsets are lightweight, slim and beautifully designed devices. They feature a 5.0 inch and higher IPS capacitive touchscreen display that either features HD/FHD resolution. Moreover, these displays will leave you spellbound with superior contrasts, immaculate picture quality, extremely perfect colours and better visibility in outside light from extensive angles. The display screens are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass, and in some models they are toughened with Corning Concore Glass as well. Black, grey and white are the predominant colours that these handsets come in.
Features of Xiaomi Mi series
The Mi series of handsets are powered by quad-core/octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. They are paired with an Adreno GPU and at least 2GB of RAM (3GB for Mi4). The Adreno GPU supports advanced graphics which facilitates in delivering faster images for graphic-intensive applications with more efficiency. Although there is a faster performance, the consumption of power still remains low. The latest models sport a minimum internal memory of 16GB which cannot be expanded.
The phones run on Android operating systems, with the latest models featuring the KitKat and Lollipop versions. The MIUI is Xiaomi’s custom developed skin that runs on top of Android. Users have also been known to largely acknowledge the quality of this interface. MIUI has an in-built security mechanism that guarantees its users absolute privacy protection and optimizes data and battery usage.
The phones in the series come with a 13MP autofocus Sony camera that supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, touch-to-focus, face detection, panorama, smile detection, f/2.0 and higher aperture. Additionally you can also shoot full HD videos at 30fps. These are accompanied with at front facing camera that is 2MP (Mi4 has 8MP). They capture quality self portraits and video calls under less light settings as well.
The screens also come with an accelerometer, gyroscope, a light sensor, proximity sensor and a compass as well. The Mi phones are single and dual SIM phones. Connectivity and networking features are available in the form of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, GLONASS, 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, USB OTG, A-GPS, Wi-Fi Direct, tethering and mobile hotspot. The batteries are Li-Ion ones and are mostly non-removable. They come with a battery more than 3000mAh, some of which also support the Quick Charge option.
Xiaomi has just introduced the MIUI 7, running atop the Android Lollipop OS, on 19th of August in India.
