About Microsoft Lumia
Microsoft Corporation is the founder of the most widely used computer operating system “Windows”, based in Redmond, Washington that was founded in 1975, and is presently, one of the largest manufacturers of software in the world. The company, at present, manufactures the popular Lumia line of Windows OS-based smartphones under the name of Microsoft Lumia.
History of Microsoft Lumia
The Lumia series of smartphones were originally manufactured by another global telecommunications giant, Nokia, who primarily made use of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS in the phones belonging to the lineup. These devices first made an appearance in 2011 and have been in the market ever since.
However, following Microsoft’s complete takeover of the mobile manufacturing business from Nokia in 2014 (announced in 2013), the company has been releasing phones. Starting 2015, Microsoft has released 7 Lumia devices, all of which belong to the 3rd/4th generations of the 400/500/600 series.

Although a huge chunk of India’s present smartphone market share lies in the hands of Android running manufacturers, Microsoft Lumia easily qualifies as a close rival to them along with iOS. Presently, the Microsoft Lumia line of devices has been very well accepted by smartphone users in the country and many are turning their heads towards the Windows based Mobile experience.
This has been primarily fueled by the fact that the Lumia series was originally released under Nokia, which already had a lion’s share in the Indian market and was very popular, prior to Samsung replacing it from that position. On the whole, it can be concluded that Microsoft has done well with the Lumia brand in India and have found many takers for these budget and midrange smartphones.
Design of Microsoft Lumia series
The Microsoft Lumia series of devices are primarily touchscreen devices that usher a great feel in terms of shape. These devices are come in a range of screen sizes that vary according to the different models and usually start at 4inches. The rectangular form factor suits fine and they also feature curved edges.
Microsoft Lumia phones generally sport a removable back cover that is made of polycarbonate material, but does not creak when removed. As such, it appears as a unibody design, which is a good thing to have. Apart from these, the Microsoft Lumia devices also sport a rich array of vibrant colors on the covers. This makes them appear very trendy.
The Microsoft Lumia series phones boast of a wide number of features. These devices generally run on dual/quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon/Krait processors that also have an Adreno GPU for graphics. These phones come with a RAM size capacity of 1GB and as for storage space, the Microsoft Lumia phones come with 8GB of internal memory, which is further expandable up to 128GB with a micro-SD card.

One can also expect all types of connectivity options with the Lumia devices such as GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G LTE (on specific models), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. The batteries on these phones are also very sufficient and range between 1500mAh and 3000mAh.
