About Micromax Canvas
Micromax Canvas mobiles are produced by Micromax Informatics, an Indian mobile handset and electronics manufacturer, with its headquarters at Noida. In 2000, it was established as an IT software company and since then, they have gone on to the smartphones and electronics business as well.
History of Micromax Canvas series
With a focus on the low-end segment of budget phones, Micromax began selling handsets in 2008. This mainly comprised of the feature phones and the Bolt series of devices. However, in November 2012, Micromax launched the Canvas series of phones with a view to capture the midrange budget segment of users in India. The first phone in the series was the Canvas A110. Later in 2013, a number of other releases followed such as the Canvas Turbo, Magnus, Canvas HD, Doodle, 4, Selfie, Knight, Doodle 3, Spark and more.
In January 2014, Canvas Knight A350 was launched in Russia as Micromax’s first octa-core processor powered smartphone. In June 2014, the company had launched 2 Windows Phone devices. These are the Canvas Win W092 and the Canvas Win W121 respectively. Officially, Micromax is a Windows Phone hardware partner as well.
On June 2015 Micromax launched the Canvas Sliver 5, which is touted as the slimmest mobile phone in the world. The last addition to the series is the Canvas Express 2.
Popularity in India
In just a few years, Micromax has emerged as one of the fiercest competitors amongst all manufacturers in the Indian mobile phone market. For Micromax, the Canvas series is the real change towards the competition in the low-end/mid-range device segments.
These Android based smartphones don’t appear as bulky or cheap. These devices are also able to compete with the international brands that are operating in India. Besides, with the large screen sizes priced under the sub Rs.10000 category, they provide some of the cheapest handsets available. Also, with people flocking to these phones, they have become an instantaneous success. In fact, this has made Micromax a well-known household name in the country.
Design of Micromax Canvas series
The Canvas series handsets are some of the well-designed smartphones in the present market. They come with a 3.5 inch or higher capacitive multi-touch screen and have LCD/IPS/AMOLED displays with qHD/HD/FHD resolutions. The phones also feature Corning Gorilla Glass screen protection.
Some of the handsets come with an exchangeable rear panel in a variety of colours. The phones support a magnetometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and accelerometer. Moreover, the phones are narrow enough and without any sharp edges, and they are comfortable to hold in the hand.
Features of Micromax Canvas series
The Micromax Canvas series phones are powered by dual-core, quad-core, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon/MediaTek processors. With the presence of a Mali/Adreno GPU, these devices are able to handle powerful graphics without difficulty. The phones bear a minimum 1GB of RAM. Besides this, the Canvas phones also come with minimum 8GB of internal memory that is expandable with a microSD. The phones generally run on Android OS, like ICS, Jelly Bean, KitKat and the latest Lollipop versions while the Windows phones run version 8.1.
The Canvas phones feature dual cameras. The back camera is of 8MP/13MP with autofocus and LED flash while the front camera is of 0.3/2/5MP. The cameras on these phones sport OV sensor, Sony sensor, and 5P Largan Lens. In some models, the default camera app allows users to tweak some parts of their face such as a reduction of dark circles, teeth can be made whiter and oil can be eliminated. Users can decide from camera settings such as HDR, normal, smile detection, panorama, face beauty, exposure composition and more. They also offer a burst mode, where users can click promptly up to 99 pictures.
On the connectivity front, these phones support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G, 4G LTE dual SIM and A-GPS. These phones are powered by a minimum 2000mAh Li-Ion battery, which deliver many hours of talk time.
