About Xiaomi Mobile Phones
Xiaomi, which is a privately owned Chinese electronics company, is a reputed manufacturer when it comes to the likes of mobile phones and tablets. In fact, the company is also the fourth largest smartphone vendor in the world, at present.
Xiaomi is one of those smartphone makers that have taken rapid strides, since its inception in 2011. The fact that it was founded just four years ago, and has gone on to be the fourth largest manufacturer in this time clearly illustrates this fact.
The Mi1 was the first smartphone to be released under the Xiaomi brand name, which was followed by the Mi2. This was even marketed in several western markets and received a great reception. The Mi3 followed in 2013, which is one of Xiaomi’s most widely sold devices. The company also ended up entering a number of new markets with this release, the most notable of which was India.
Since then, the company has gone on to release the Redmi series of phones (1S and 2S), which also features the Note brand, and the Mi4, Mi4i and the latest one, Mi4c.
Popularity in India
Xiaomi entered to the Indian markets with the Mi3 smartphone in late 2013. Its method of sale was the flash sale, in collaboration with India’s largest retailer Flipkart. Since then, many companies have followed the method and have proved to be successful too.
Xiaomi has clearly created a rage among smartphone enthusiasts in the country with almost all of its releases. In fact, the company’s ability to provide some amazing devices, with high-end configurations, at rather affordable prices has really appealed to the Indian consumer mindset. Xiaomi phones are so popular in the country these days that the company, knowing that India is a market with huge potential, even decided to set up its own unit in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
Design of Xiaomi mobiles
Xiaomi offers some of the most well crafted phones that can be found in the market. Although many of their models closely resemble the iPhone, they are vastly different in most aspects. To start with the feature phones polycarbonate bodies rather than metal. They also happen to be comparatively heavier.
The phones are basically touch-screen ones that come in various sizes and upwards of 4 inches. They feature IPS LCD displays that also offer stunning resolutions, such as HD or FHD.
The Mi logo can be found both on the front face just above the screen and also on the back. Three capacitive buttons are provided and these are also backlit.
Some color options are also available for many of the models, the most common being white and metallic grey.
Features of Xiaomi mobiles
Xiaomi phones offer some of the best features that can be found in smartphones these days. They are powered by some the most efficient chipsets, i.e. the Qualcomm Krait/Snapdragon models. They are also coupled with a minimum of 1GB of RAM. As for internal memory, one can expect a minimum, of 4, 3 or 16GB, mainly depending on the model in question.
The phones are also equipped with rear/front cameras that are capable of shooting good quality casual shots. The camera resolutions vary with models and the latest release, Mi4c offers a 13/5MP combo. They also offer numerous other features, such as LED flash, face-detection, auto-focus, panorama mode and various tweaking options.
Xiaomi mobiles, although based on Android versions, run their own customized skin known as MIUI. Although, this skin lacks an app drawer, as is the case with almost all Chinese smartphone manufacturers, it does come across as a well polished interface with preloaded relevant apps.
As for connectivity, most models offer dual SIM connectivity. The latest phones have 4G LTE support, while the earlier ones supported 3G. Also, one can find W-Fi, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS and NFC (in some models). The phones also offer great battery life and many of them are not removable.
Xiaomi is all set to test new waters after select Mi4 users will receive Windows 10 software in December. It also recently unveiled the Redmi Note 3, which has a full metal body and also a fingerprint sensor.
