About Sharp Mobile Phones

Sharp Mobile Phones

Japanese multinational company Sharp Corporation is a very well recognized brand in the world market for its electronics products and appliances. The company is headquartered in Osaka and also happens to be among the world’s largest makers of televisions. As such, Sharp has also had a good name in the mobile device market and has a pretty good market share.

History of Sharp Mobile Phones

Sharp came into existence in the year 1912, as a metal workshop based in Tokyo. A mechanical pencil was its specialty before the company stressed in making the first generation of radio sets. In the early 50s, the company also started to make television sets, which has been the company’s primary focus. It also made several other items such as transistor calculators and more.

The company’s entry into the mobile phone business happened around 2000. It released the world’s first commercial camera phone as well. Gradually, from the mid-2000s, Sharp has become the largest phone maker in Japan and faces competition from the likes of Sony, Apple, and Fujitsu. Despite this, the company has fairly struggled in a bid to cut its overall losses and has plans to be taken over by Foxconn of China.

Popularity in India

Sharp has always been a very popular brand in India, at least when considering the television market scenario. The company has always enjoyed a pretty good share because of the quality of its products and also their affordability.

As for mobile devices though, Sharp isn’t a very prominent brand in the country. In fact, it has an absent market and its phones are very rare to find as well. So, all in all, Sharp hasn’t replicated what it has done with its phone business in Japan, here in India.

Design of Sharp Mobile Phones

When it comes to the design aspect of Sharp mobile phones, a majority of its earlier releases belonged to the feature phone category. However, it presently sells smartphones. The construction of its phone models are largely plastic and it assures lightness. Some models do sport a metal bezel though, adding well to the overall finish.

When it comes to screen size of Sharp’s mobile devices, they largely vary between the models. Models having up to 5 inch screen sizes have been released. Also, many of the models do boast of having IGZO HD resolution displays. All phones though, do come with IPS LCD technology.

The phones sport many different colors and have a removable back that is also curved in certain devices.

Features of Sharp Mobile Phones

Sharp’s phones are known to feature modern smartphone standards. For starters, they are known to pack Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and memory that goes up to 2 GB. This allows devices to run smoothly and fast. For storage, most of the devices feature flash storage capabilities within the 8GB to 32GB range. Expandable options are present as well for these devices.

Sharp’s phones are known to run Android OS as software. The latest devices have been known to feature KitKat, which is a little old by present standards.

Camera is present on Sharp’s mobile devices and they are present on both, the rear and the front. These shooters are pretty good for mobile photography and also come with a host of other features.

Connectivity-wise, Sharp phones have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular SIM with support for 4G, GPS, micro USB and a headphone jack. The phones also have speakers for external audio. The devices are also known to pack several sensors that allow for many different functionalities. They are also pretty good when it comes to battery life.
