About Philips Mobile Phones

Philips Mobile Phones

Philips is a Dutch company that is well known for its electronics, healthcare and lighting products. The company is headquartered in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam and also has its presence in most countries. Philips has always been known to have a long history in the realm of mobile phones and it does so even today.

History of Philips Mobile Phones

Philips began manufacturing mobile phones in the mid 90s. It also collaborated with Lucent Technologies in 1997 to form Philips Consumer Communication. However, the companies decided to pull out of this business in a couple of years, after doing badly in terms of market capture.

Philips manufactured phones much throughout and then decided to sell its phone business to China Electronics Corporation in 2007. The company got the right to sell phones under the brand name of Philips and as such, the mobile manufacturing division had already been moved to China in 2001 after a joint venture between the two companies. Presently, CEC is known to sell Philips mobile handsets in certain countries.

Popularity in India

Philips is easily one of the most notable foreign brands in the country and set up shop around the 1930s. The company has been a very trustable brand since then, mainly known for its quality in lighting and electronics products.

However, despite all of this popularity and reputation for being one of the topmost brands in the country, Philips has significantly failed to get a good share in the Indian mobile phone market. The company’s phones are rarely seen around and even so, relatively unknown because there is no marketing involved. The only possible place to get these phones would be certain online platforms and that is rare as well.

Design of Philips Mobile Phones

Phones designed by Philips aren’t exactly outstanding or unattractive. However, they do have a decent look to go with. Most of its feature phones were known to sport designs relevant during those days, such as clamshell, slider, and more. Presently, most phones are touchscreen based.

The phones have a plastic build that doesn’t add anything in terms of looks. They feature large touchscreens with IPS LCD technology and HD/FHD resolution displays. Most of the phones also have hardened glass for additional protection.

The phones are known to arrive in various color options as well, although this differs from model to model.

Features of Philips Mobile Phones

Philips’ mobile phones come with all modern and essential functionalities found in most releases in present times. They run on processors that have multiple cores and also feature up to 2GB of RAM. When it comes to internal storage options, most of the devices offer 16/32GB of flash storage. They can also be extended with the help of a micro-SD card up to 128GB.

The devices have cameras on both the front and back. These also have additional features like LED flash, face detection, panorama and more.

Philips handsets run on Android OS versions, while feature phones run their own software.

For connectivity, Philips mobile devices rely on Wi-Fi, SIM (dual, with 3G/4G support), Bluetooth, WLAN, FM Radio, GPS, and micro USB. The devices also come with speakers and a headset jack. Some of the devices are also known to have NFC installed.

Besides these, the phones come with a bunch of sensors that help in its functioning. Some of these are accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. The phones also come with large batteries that offer decent usage hours.

Philips Mobile Phone News
