Micromax, based in Gurgaon, India, happens to be the biggest Indian smartphone brand and also offers some of the most exciting budget oriented smartphones. While it caters to a number of segments in the electronics market, it is most notable for its feature and Android smartphones.
History of Micromax mobiles
Micromax first forayed into the cell phone business in 2008. Back then, it mostly sold feature phones that were known for reliable battery backup and basic multimedia aspects. Till date, a number of such feature phone models adorn the Indian market and finds many takers.
It launched the Canvas and Bolt series in 2012 and 2013 respectively. The former happens to be a mid-budget segment series while the latter caters to the low end market. Of late, most of the Micromax releases have been that of the Canvas series.

Micromax represents one of the success stories, something that Indian smartphone brands have been seeing these days. Up against some mighty international brands, these Indian makers have done very well to hold on to the Indian mobile phone market. In fact, Micromax ranks as the 10th largest mobile player in the world and is only second to Samsung in India. Also, as per recent reports, it is even set to topple Samsung within the next few quarters.
Just like its feature handsets, the Android handsets of the company have found plenty of takers in India and the subcontinent. The Canvas series happens to be the most popular in the regard. It is also why the company frequently releases new models in the series. Micromax phones mostly cater to the low-end and mid-budget segment of the market.
Design of Micromax mobile phones
Micromax phones are largely made of polycarbonate and thus have a plastic build. However, they are also fairly light because of this. Users have a number of color options to pick from and many models also offer a range of back panels.
As for its Android touchscreen phones, the screen size varies, but mostly features either of the IPS / AMOLED LCD. Many of the latest phones come with HD/FHD screens and have Corning Gorilla Glass for added protection from scratches and shocks. They offer decent viewing angles and are comfortable to operate using one hand.
Features of Micromax mobile phones
These phones usually have a dual/quad/octa-core processor, either of MediaTek/Snapdragon make. Coupled with ample amount of RAM, they are known to offer speedy execution. Internal memory provided is either 4/8GB, with scope for adding a MicroSDcard.
Android is the OS that is shipped with Micromax phones. They are known to run different versions and often upgrade to higher versions too..
Both, rear and front cameras provided with the Canvas and Bolt series phones. Feature phones only feature a basic rear camera though. The camera resolution is also different with phone models and presently released devices have a higher count in this regard. In addition, the camera supports various modes, allows tweaking of photos, and has autofocus feature and more.
As far as connectivity options are concerned, the phones support wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Dual SIM support is available with 2G/3G support. Many of the latest releases are also 4G enabled. As with all phones, GPS support is also available on Micromax phones.
Micromax supplies Li-ion batteries with its phones. These are known to last a day with an average amount of usage. Batteries in the feature phones provide power for a lot longer than a day.
