Further acquisition of the UMC in Ukraine led MTS develop their largest CIS market outside Russia. This expansion made its way into Asia in 2004 when the company got holds of Uzdunrobita in Ukranine and Barash Communication Technologies Inc. in Turkmenistan.

It was in 2008, when MTS mobile phones made their entry into the Indian subcontinent. Shyam Telelink stood as the parent company behind MTS India; by the end of 2008, it came in the top 50 list of global telecommunication providers.

MTS populates in making world class smart phones which have garnered significant reputation. In addition to Russia (it's leading market); the company also has stores in major parts of Europe and Asia. In this respect, India stands as their leading Asian market with more than 900 outlets spread out across the nation. Moreover, close to 400 service centers also make themselves available in all major cities of the country. This includes not only the Grade A ones, but the Grade B cities as well.

Brand MTS and its popularity

Sales figures of MTS mobile phones went for a steep rise immediately after their first smartphone release in 2010. Seven years down the line, it is the 9th largest smartphone brand in the Indian subcontinent. With promises to provide upgrades to the latest version of Android, the company is also looking to cater to the needs of this growing gadget savvy Indian population.

As of financial year 2017, the company has seen a 10% rise in its total sale of smartphones due to the introduction of 4G and LTE services. They even aim to sell close to fifty thousand handsets by the end of FY 18.

Prospects of Market Expansion

Considering India, MTS aims to attain sub continental domination by providing budget oriented smartphones to the masses. This comes with the plans of opening a couple of new production units on the Indian soil as well. So, MTS mobile phones aim for a greater market hold with cheap and efficient smartphone services.
