About Idea Mobile Phones

Idea Mobile Phones

Idea Cellular, often referred to as !dea, is an Indian telecom operator based out of the country’s commercial capital city, Mumbai. At present, the company happens to be the country’s third largest mobile operator, in terms of subscriber base. The company is also known for its line of Android-based smartphones, which is mainly produced for use with its data services.

History of Idea Mobile Phones

Idea’s inception dates back to 1995, when the company was formed by three major companies Aditya Birla Group, AT&T Wireless and the Tata Group. The company continued to expand in the telecom business before it stepped into the manufacturing of a handful of Android smartphones.

The company’s first releases in the smartphones segment happened towards the end of November, when it launched two 3G supported handsets. These were the ID 280 and the Blade models. Since then the company has released quite a few models top its lineup. The latest of these models arrived in 2014, in the form of the Magna L.

Popularity in India

Idea is considered to be a remarkable brand when it comes to telecommunications services offered in the country. Likewise, the company has also garnered a lot of reputation over the years for its reliable and affordable services.

Although Idea’s handsets are fairly low priced, there aren’t many takers for its phones. These are usually known to come with minimal specifications that comprise of a smartphone and do not offer the best user experience. And, with so many alternatives available to a customer, people largely prefer to go phones that offer better value for money and a good user experience.

Design of Idea Mobile Phones

Almost all of Idea’s smartphones bear a similar kind of design. They are known to sport plastic builds that have rounded edges. This also ensures that they fit into the palms of a user easily.

The screen size on Idea’s mobile phones isn’t specifically large. They usually range between 3.5 inches and 4.5 inches. As for the technology, they make use of IPS LCD displays. However, considering their budget oriented nature, they do not come with HD resolution.

When it comes to the availability of color options, Idea’s phones are largely available in white, silver and black. The Idea branding also appears in the center of the back cover.

Features of Idea Mobile Phones

Idea’s range of smartphones isn’t particularly known for standout features, but rather the more basic ones. The phones are powered by Qualcomm or MediaTek chipsets that boast of good processing speeds. Memory on these devices is around the region of 512MB, which can be a little low if you are planning to play games. Storage differs between devices, and is pretty low. However, one does get the option of expandable storage, which can be beneficial.

Idea’s phone range is known to run only on Android OS. The first of its phones arrived with Android Froyo and the latest one is known to feature the KitKat version. As for the interface, it is slightly modified, but remains fairly simple.

Not all of the phones from Idea have a front camera. A rear camera though is common in all of the models.

Connectivity options on Idea mobile phones come in the form of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, dual SIM with support for 3G, FM, GPS and more. A headphone jack is present in these phones and so can speakers be found. Most of the devices also come with sensors that add to varying functionalities.

Battery life is fairly okay on Idea smartphones, considering they do not come with large batteries.
