AOC International, or what was earlier called as Admiral Overseas Corporation, is a worldwide electronics major based out of Taipei, Taiwan. AOC is largely known for its range of display monitors, which mainly include IPS, TFT and LCDs for computers and TVs. It earlier used to make CRT monitors as well. The company also manufactures mobile phones and all-in-one computers at present, besides its main business.
History of AOC Mobiles Phones
AOC was founded in the year 1967, mainly as the Asian arm of its then parent company, Admiral Corporation. Initially established in Chicago, the company was later established in Taiwan. It underwent a name change in 1978, when it was named AOC International.
AOC has always been a reliable brand in the field of display devices, such as TVs and computer monitors. And, towards the later part of 2000, the company also started to focus on other areas. This is when the company started to make all-in-one PCs, mobile devices and even tablets.
Popularity in India
AOC entered the Indian market in 2005 and since then, has always had a strong presence in the country. It presently owns a pretty decent share in the market for displays and has even fended off competition from other global brands, like Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic and more.
The company’s entry into the mobile phone market happened fairly late, as a result of which, it is yet to make its presence felt in a major way. Although it devices are pretty affordable, they have still struggled to catch up with other already established brands, as of now.
Design of AOC Mobile Phones
When it comes to design aspects of AOC’s mobile phones, one can say that they are pretty good and keep in line with the latest trends. All of the phones come in a bar form factor and with touchscreen option. The buildup of these phones is mostly polycarbonate and metal. The metal parts are largely used for the bezels and external buttons.
When it comes to the display on AOC mobile phones, they are largely lie between 4 and 6 inches. The technology used in making them is IPS LCD. They also offer varying resolutions, depending on the model concerned. A few capacitive buttons also adorn the space, just below the screen.
The phones come in many different color options, but black happen to be the most common of them. The AOC branding is present at the back and also on the front, in certain models.
AOC’s phones are just like most Android smartphones that throng the markets these days. They are powered by very capable processors, which also offer dual-core features. The memory on these phones varies and is usually about 512MB. When it comes to storage options, 8GB is the minimum memory that is provided with the devices. Also, one can make use of a micro-SD card to avail more storage capacity.
AOC’s smartphones range is powered by Android OS, and they come with the KitKat version till date. The user interface is smooth and user friendly for beginners as well.
The phones are also known to pack a pair of causal shooters on the rear and the front. These have a megapixel count of 2 and 1.3MP.
Connectivity on AOC devices is available in the form of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular connectivity with 3G, and more. Some models also support dual SIMs. Wired connectivity is available, as in micro USB. A 3.5mm jack for headphones can be found, along with external speakers too. A number of sensors present on these devices make for added functionalities.
The AOC devices are fairly good in battery life for normal usage patterns.
The AOC device released in India was the D70V50G Android tablet in March 2015.
