About Apple MacBook

Apple MacBook

Apple Inc., one of the world’s largest designers of premium consumer electronics products, manufactures the MacBook series of computer notebooks. The MacBook series has hit markets of late, after being shelved for almost four years.

History of Apple MacBook

The Apple MacBook was launched in 2006. At that time, it was mainly released to ensure a transition from the iBook and PowerBook series of notebooks that primarily came with PowerPC processors. Owing to what it brought to the table, both in terms of design and features, the MacBook notebooks easily established themselves at the top of the market and were a top selling lineup.

However, the MacBook series took a hiatus from early 2012 to March 2013, when it was reintroduced again.

Popularity in India

Apple is considered to be a premium manufacturer of notebooks in India. While leading international brands that manufacture laptops, such as Lenovo, HP, Vaio, Dell, Acer, Compaq and more, are plentiful, Apple has established its own identity with their products.

Also, what is significantly different is that MacBooks run on OS X (earlier Mac OS), Apple’s own customized operating system while other brands run Windows or Linux. Many students and professionals prefer using a MacBook to a normal laptop. Student discount offers also make them a very attractive option. On the whole, it is fair to say that the MacBook series has been well-accepted by the consumers in India.

Design of the Apple MacBook

The Apple MacBook has gone through several design changes, as many as four to be precise. The first model came with its body being made up of a mix of fiberglass and polycarbonate. The second and third changes introduced a unibody aluminum and unibody polycarbonate material respectively. Also, the FireWire ports were omitted. The latest design, introduced this year, has a thinner appearance and also comes with a USB Type-C port.

Nevertheless, the MacBooks are probably some of the slimmest designed notebooks available and ooze out plenty of elegance. They come with a LED display size of 12/13.3 inches and weight roughly about a kilogram. The keys are sufficiently large, spacious and also backlit. Retina Display is also present in the latest models and allows up to a viewing angle of 178 degrees. A Force Touch trackpad, which has various innovative functionalities, is present as well.

The MacBooks are available in three different color options, namely silver, gold and space gray.

Features of Apple MacBook

The MacBooks are powered by Intel’s lineup of Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors. The latest model, however, packs a 5th generation Intel Core M processor, with Intel HD Graphics. The clock speed ranges from 1.8 to 2.4 GHz and there is support for Turbo Boost technology. The earlier models were packed with 1, 2 or 4GB of RAM. However, the latest 2015 model does pack an 8GB DDR3 RAM. As for storage options, the MacBook comes in two variants. One is the 256GB one and the other being 512GB.

MacBooks also have a 480p Face Time camera, microphones and stereo speakers. There’s also a port for connecting headphones. For connectivity, you can rely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A number of apps also support plenty of wireless features, such as sharing files, audio, AirPlay to HDTV, Hotspot, wireless printing, and auto backup. A Type-C USB port can be used for charging, data transfer, VGA and HDMI output.

OS X provides a great sense of joy when you use it. It is swift and nifty, and also crafted to perfection. The MacBook comes with preloaded applications and many more can be downloaded from the App Store. Besides, you can always rely on updates that fix regular bugs or security features from time to time.

The battery on the MacBook provides up to 9 hours of web surfing wirelessly and 30 days of standby time.
