About Lenovo IdeaPad
Lenovo happens to be a Chinese technology company that is also the largest manufacturer of PCs in the world. The IdeaPad series of notebook computers and hybrid laptops/tablets are largely targeted at the consumer-oriented market rather than the business segment.
History of the Lenovo IdeaPad series
The IdeaPad series of notebooks was introduced by Lenovo in January 2008. The first three models primarily belonged to two different lineups within the IdeaPad series, namely the Y series and the U series.
Since then, Lenovo has made a number of additions to these series and also added several other series. Some of the series in the IdeaPad lineup are the Yoga, Flex, Z, S and A series, besides the Y and the U series.
Popularity in India
Lenovo, at present, is the largest PC vendor in the world. In India too, the company’s position is paramount in the market. Lenovo gadgets are pretty popular because they do come at an affordable price tag, specifically something that clicks for the budget-minded Indian customers.
The IdeaPad series on notebooks are very popular in the country. Even though they are in the mid-budget and higher range, they are largely used by students and professionals. Also, the fact that many of the Lenovo devices are comparatively lesser priced than its competitors’ models with the same configuration, makes it easier to pick them.
Design of the IdeaPad series
The IdeaPad notebooks aren’t ones that come with a particularly standout design. Rather, these devices pretty much offer simple design terms, but don’t really compromise on looks. They are generally of a plastic build and a number of color options are also available. However, this isn’t the case with the Yoga and Flex series, which are basically hybrid tablet computers. They have various modes, such as laptop mode, stand mode and more, that allows you to use the device as per your needs.
These devices have screen sizes that ranges from 14 to 17 inches, depending on the models. For the Yoga and Flex series, you have the lower screen sizes as well. The screens utilizes IPS LED technology that boasts of good viewing angles and also employs a HD/FHD screen for standout graphics.
A full-sized AccuType keyboard (often backlit), along with a gesture-based trackpad is also incorporated in the IdeaPad devices. The devices are less bulky in appearance and also portable.
Features of the IdeaPad series
The IdeaPad series of notebooks are primarily powered by Intel processors, although there are models that utilize the likes of AMD processors too. In the Intel lineup, these devices uses a Core i3/i5/i7 or even Atom processors. The Celeron processors were used at times in previous models. Also, integrated graphics or an additional graphics, either 1/2GB, is often provided. The RAM varies between different devices and it is usually 2GB upwards and up to 8GB. Storage options range between 500GB and 1TB SAT HDDs or SSDs of lower capacity. However, there are options below 500GB and above 1TB as well.
Windows is the primary OS that runs on most IdeaPad notebooks and tablets. The A series runs on Lenovo customized Android OS. Besides this, Lenovo offers many models that come without any operating system, but just DOS.
Connectivity options are many on the IdeaPad devices. You get wireless connectivity options such as Bluetooth, W-Fi and WLAN. Then again, you have USB ports, VGA port, Ethernet port and a HDMI port as well. An optical disk drive is also made available in these devices, barring the hybrid tablet computer lineups.
For multimedia purposes, the IdeaPad laptops have dual speakers with Dolby sound, a microphone and an audio jack to connect headphones.
The devices are powered by a Li-Ion battery that can provide long hours of usage.
