MSI Laptops

Micro-Star International, or better known as MSI, is a Taiwanese IT firm with its headquarters in New Taipei City. The company was very well known for its range of motherboards and additional cards for computers, and even supplied them to numerous well-known international brands. At present, the company has expanded on its original business and even makes notebooks, tablets and phones.

History of MSI Laptops

MSI was founded in 1986 and was initially only into the manufacturing of PC motherboards and additional cards. It continued to innovate in the domain until around the year 2000, when MSI Computer Co. was formed for the development of personal computers.

MSI’s first notebook was the M510C, was released in the market in 2004. It kept its product line going and then introduced an ultra slim notebook five years later. Since then, the company has gone on to release some very innovative products and even forayed into the tablets and smartphone markets.

Popularity in India

MSI’s motherboards have always been well-known in India over the years and the maker has a pretty strong market. With laptops though, the scenario here is a little different. Indian customers have generally preferred the likes of HP, Dell, Sony and Lenovo over the years due to their strong reputation in the domain. However, it is also true that customers these are looking at brands beyond these obvious ones.

Several brands stand in that category now, and MSI is among them. Although there have been relatively less takers, the number sure is bound to increase, especially with MSI proving to be a strong force in the industry over the last few years. MSI has dedicated notebooks for all purposes and likewise, even an exclusive range for gamers, which it has launched the country.

Design of MSI Laptops

MSI laptops surely stand out from a design point of view. In fact, the company has been bagging many design awards due to its outstanding work on this aspect.

The notebooks have a great buildup, mostly made of carbon fiber and polycarbonate material for strength and lightness. They are also largely slim in appearance.

Much like every laptop brand, the screen size offered varies from device to device. With MSI, sizes start below 14 inches and go right up to 18 inches. The screens come with IPS LCD technology and boast of HD/4K resolution displays with great viewing angles and detailing.

When it comes to the design of the chassis, the keyboard rests in the middle with the trackpad just below. Many of the models have a customizable backlit keyboard that not only looks great, but is also very helpful for typing when lights are out. The trackpad is gesture based and offers plenty of controls.

MSI branding is present on all the devices and at the top surface of the lid. Numerous color options may also be found and can be chosen as per the need.

Features of MSI Laptops

MSI’s notebook range is classified into four major categories, which are the Classic, Mobile Workstation, Prestige and the Gaming series. Among these, all of the series’ also have further separate lines.

Notebooks from MSI are powered by the latest line of Skylake and Broadwell processors from Intel. All the basic laptop models also have the very same processor lineup. For memory, these laptops are known to support RAM as high as 64GB. Although this isn’t true for all of the models, most have support up to 16GB.
