History of Mac mini
The Mac mini was launched way back in 2005, and at that time, was also the most affordable Mac available. It was basically released to keep in mind the budget-minded customers and make a Mac available to them.
Over the years, there have been several iterations of Mac mini desktops released till date. The last was released in October 2014. Mac minis have also addressed various concerns that have cropped up over the years and added newer features as well.
Popularity in India
India has been a good market for Apple. However, belonging to the premium niche of products, Apple has always been more favored by those people who can truly afford it.
Considering that there are numerous other options available at lower prices, the Mac mini has often been out of favor with the general masses. However, with time Apple products have become increasingly popular n the country and so is the case with the Mac mini.
Design of the Mac mini
The Mac mini is a desktop computer unlike any other. Basically, it has a cuboid form factor and most of the components are fit into its 19.7 cm square frame. It is basically made from a single block of aluminum and weighs roughly about 1.2 kilograms.
It comes without a display, keyboard and even a mouse. Therefore, users have the option to add these components as per their choice. Also, this makes it relatively simple enough for users that want to switch from Windows to Mac. For them, the Mac mini is a perfect choice.
Features of Mac mini
The Mac mini is powerful in its own way. Earlier models used PowerPC processors and that was followed by Intel Core Solo/Duo and Core 2 Duo processors. The very latest releases make use of Core i5/i7 processors. Graphics processing is done by in-built or discrete Nvidia GPUs.
The earlier Mac mini models supported up to 1GB of RAM and didn’t have a second slot for expansion. However, this changed with the introduction of the Intel-based models and two slots for memory have been offered since. Mac mini, at present, offers 4/8GB of RAM, with 16GB option at the time of purchase.
For storage, the present devices offer Fusion Drive, HDD or SSD, as options up to 1TB of storage are available.
There are many connectivity options with the Mac mini. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support is available. Then there’s a HDMI, USB, Ethernet, AirPort Extreme and Thunderbolt ports, along with a SDXC card slot. The Firewire port found in earlier models have given way to Thunderbolt 2 ports in the latest releases. A 3.5mm audio jack is also available in the device. A combo drive/Super Drive, which came with earlier releases, have been made optional with the present ones.
Mac mini, like the other Mac lineups, runs on OS X. The latest release is Yosemite. You can also avail the features and functionalities of numerous apps provided, and also those that can be downloaded from the App Store.
