About Maruti Suzuki Cars

Maruti Suzuki is one of the most trusted and popular brand names in India. Playing a vital role in the automobile industry since the nation's independence, Maruti Suzuki cars continue to be just that important a piece of this Indian economy.

Maruti Suzuki cars leading the indigenous Indian automobile industry

Maruti Suzuki cars constitute among the largest populace of passenger vehicles on Indian roads. They are easily one of the most recognizable brand names in the country and are highly regarded as one of the success stories of India's industrialization.

Giving India Wheels:

Formerly Maruti Udyog, foundations lay in 1981 as a Government of India initiative. Commencement of production, however, was in 1983 as the joint venture deal between the Indian government and Japanese automobile giant Suzuki takes shape. Both parties settle on a 74% and 26% shaping as per market specifics.

The first vehicle to come out of with a Maruti logo was the quintessential Maruti 800, an icon of the Indian automotive industry and economy. Along with the likes of Hindustan Ambassador and Premier Padmini, the 800 was the only other indigenous model plying roads.

Success was immediate and instantaneous. Following this up, Maruti Suzuki adds Omnivan to their production lines in 1984. The Gurgaon plant tool the responsibility to manufacture both these models. Within that year, its production capacity underwent expansions to 40,000 units.

1985 saw Maruti Suzuki cars including their Gyspy 4WD off-roader onto the market. Exports take off in 1987 as a lot of 500 cars to Hungary. Maruti also produced their 100,000th model. 87 was a vital landmark year for the manufacturers. The 800's long-term replacement enters this market as Maruti Suzuki Alto. By 1988, their Gurgaon plant reaches production capacity of 100,000 units per year.

Maruti Suzuki market reach and output:

Continuing with their progress, Maruti Udyog Limited increased their stake in the company to 50% and then to 56.21%. May 2007 saw the Indian government released its stake in Maruti Udyog Ltd.

Maruti Suzuki manufactures its automobiles solely in India across 3 manufacturing plants. Other than Gurgaon, the Manesar and Gujarat manufacturing plant constitute a total maximum output of above 1,700,000 units. With Suzuki still holding the majority shares, manufacturing uses near 70% of indigenous products and raw. International exports include markets such as Australia.

Maruti as Brand India:

Starting off with financial and institutional backing from the government, Maruti with Suzuki's know-how was a perfect combination. Entering into an economically growing market with near to zero competition, this was a profitable venture for both parties.

But more than that, for the Indian consumers, Maruti was a brand which was essentially Indian. Starting from their 800 model, their primary motive was to provide consumers with a motion on 4-wheels along with every single basic necessity. Exceptional build quality thanks to Japanese work culture was the primary reason behind their increasing sales and prospects.

Maruti Suzuki cars future Indian market prospects:

The Indian market continues to be the mainstay for these manufacturers despite increasing on exports. This Indian automobile market itself rates as one of the fastest growing markets around. Other than Maruti Suzuki cars holding more than 45% of the market share, these manufacturers have one of the largest sales networks with more than 1820 outlets across nearly 1500 locations.
