Yamaha finally unveils the 2017 YZF-R6
The fuzz is about Yamaha, and the bike it has recently unveiled to lead the race as a front-runner! The 2017 model/variant of Yamaha YZF-R6 is literally inches away from the roads, and when it gets on the road, shall by all means fly a few inches above it!

After a long wait, the AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida served as the stage for revelation of the first new YFZ-R6. The super sport racing class has been dominating throughout the racing rides on the track. This bike unleashes more power than the 600c competitors and thanks to the provoked razor sharp handling that gives any rider a quick comfortable edge in lap time over others. It looks more of a R1 sibling, but is still unique in itself.
No doubt this bike on the track would take all the eyes at its first glance. Yamaha brags about the new R6's aerodynamic efficiency which they claim to be better by 8 percent, which is a big number to achieve also that's the highest efficiency the company has achieved so far. We witness the swift bike with a standard-layout inline 4 cylinder, reaches to the limit of 17.000 RPM which has been tuned as per the latest Euro-norm. A quick shifter to smooth the ride and much maneuvering traction control and drive control. This version of engine was introduced in the 2008 model which was producing 133.6 hp at 14500 rpm while the recent R6 seems to be detuned, probably because of a previous set norm, settling to the 122 hp of models from 2010 to 2016.
The YCC-T and YCC-I electronic systems are still intact to the system with 599 cc, with a slipper clutch, D-mode selectable ignition maps with additional six-level-adjustable (plus off) traction control system.. Yamaha stated that its ride-by ride Yamaha chip controlled Throttle (YCC-T) system serves as a boon to the riders. This system detects the slightest throttle input and immediately triggers the accurate throttle valve opening. Yamaha also elaborated that the system has been designed with such intense care to ensure that the structure is designed to operate and intervene extremely smoothly, for minimal disruption to forward drive and unlike many TC systems, is capable of adapting to changing tire diameter and grip caused by the tire wear.
The price for this bike has been tagged to $12,199 (Approx Rs.8,14,210) which comes in Yamaha ocean blue, matte raven black and white/matte silver, which is expected to hit the market by March next year.

About Yamaha YZF-R6
The Yamaha YZF-R6 is a 600cc sports bike which set a great of amusement amid speed lovers. Adequate for both regular day commuter and a performance sports bike, it proved to be one of the company's top-selling bikes and in India, it does enjoy a tremendous amount of popularity.
Yamaha YZF-R6 is Still Selling Strong in Both India and Abroad
The Yamaha YZF-R6 came with the promise of un-paralleled racetrack success, thrilling power, and tremendous ride control. For bike enthusiasts wanting to experience a suave racing scrambler, this scrambler emerged to be a tempting option in Yamaha's racing DNA segment. This series stands as one of Yamaha's best sellers globally and in Indian territories.
Yamaha YZF-R6 - Looking Back...
This bike launched in India in 1999 and was regarded as the 1st of the kind of 600cc sports bikes in the world. Yamaha's R6 transformed from YZF – R1 their flagship racing two-wheeler. The model received an upgrade in 2001.
It came with a new engine capable of producing 108 HP in stock form in comparison to its previous one which could only churn out 100 HP in a stationary position. Further advancements in powertrain capacities kept taking place and that resulted in impressive sales every time.
In terms of recognition, the company reached a high point when YZF-R6 won the super sports category in North West 200 races in 2008. 3 years later, in the Supersport World Championship Season, Chaz Davies (riding Yamaha YZF-R6) was acknowledged as the rider and the company as the best manufacturer.
YZF-R6 was clearly designed for hyper riding. Hosting an impressive 599.8cc displacement and 16-valve DOHC 4-stroke liquid cooled and inline 4-stroke powertrain, this bike was in every way a true speed demon.
Apart from this, other stellar features which proved to be the real attract were its TCI(Transistor Controlled Ignition), ABS brakes, quality suspensions and drive stability even at that velocity. For thrill seekers wanting a super agile scrambler with amazing curving and handling, this was surely a top-notch option to own.
Yamaha was confident that the bike was sure to attract attention at its 1st instance and set a norm which many would soon follow. Judging by the track record and sales figures, they did remain true to themselves.
Apart from the speed, this Yamaha YZF-R6 also had an aerodynamic body styling. Its GP Delta-Box aluminum frame accounted for lightning fast traveling and confidence mid-corner stability. Also, the bike also came with magnesium subframe.
The aim of this was to lessen weight at the rear and amp up mass centralization. Exceptional welded craftsmanship, graceful curves on the body and lower bike's COG(center of gravity) owing to aluminum alloy fuel tank accounted for enhanced ride ergonomics.
- Amazing mid-corner stability
- Impressive handling ability
- Great acceleration
- Rear seats need replacements
- Technically not the most advanced sports bike in the market.
Presently one may find the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 model available in India at Yamaha dealerships. The bike incorporates the same design cues to the one which came out in 1999, but some engine tweaks and technical advancements have taken place for better riding experience. It too has been experiencing stable sales and seems to be a good buy.
