Yamaha SR400 – The Legend is Back

The Yamaha SR400 with classic retro 1970s styling is really making its comeback in India. The SR series has a heritage of 35 years and with its comeback it will justify its tagline ‘Born to be a Legend’. However, Yamaha is going to manufacture only 1000 motorcycles of the anniversary edition exclusively for Japan and a few other markets.
Yamaha SR400 comes with a length of 2085 mm, width of 749 mm and a height of 1094 mm as its dimensions. It has a semi-double cradle frame chassis which gives it a slimmer look and the low sitting offers the natural riding position. The chrome intensive new Yamaha SR400 looks very much classic. There was no electric start available for the motorcycle like others; it goes well with a kick start.
Yamaha SR400 is powered by a399 cc, air-cooled, two valve, single cylinder, SOHC engine which generates a 23 bhp of power at 6,500 rpm and a torque of 27.4 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The engine is mated with a 5 speed manual gearbox and a multi plate clutch system.
The motto-rad is expected to have hydraulic 268 mm disc brakes for the front and 150 mm drum brakes for the rear side which makes the braking system strong and effective. The suspension system would be comprised of Telescopic, 5.9-in travel for the front and swing-arm 4.1-in travel for the rear side.
The motorcycle is available for $5990 in the US and its expected price in India is INR 3.75-4.00 lakhs. It has been speculated whether it will be imported in India, but we can keep our fingers crossed for the Legend to make a comeback on Indian soil and give our Youngistani’s to relive the 70s.
Let's flashback and take a look at the last 4 generations. I am sure the fortunate few who had the prized possession will feel nostalgic watching these pictures
