Xiaomi Mi 6: The story so far in rumor mill
The Xiaomi Mi 6 has been the favorite of the rumor mill. The device has leaked multiple times revealing lots of valuable information. According to the rumors, the device will come in two models: the Mi 6 (5.15-inch) and the Mi 6 Plus (5.7-inch). The Mi 6 Plus is expected to mount a dual camera setup on the rear. As per a new rumor, the smaller variant Mi 6 could feature Sony IMX400 sensor on the back. Also, in a fresh revelation, the Mi 6 could now be launched in May instead of April.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 which will be the successor of the Mi 5 has been leaking profusely in the last few weeks. Thanks to these leaks there is little left to our imagination about the handset in terms of specs, features and design. And if these leaks are anything to go by, Mi 6 seems to be shaping up into quite a compelling device.
Just a couple of days ago, few sketches of the Mi 6 were spotted that revealed that the imminent handset will sport a dual camera setup on the rear. The sketches also gave away that the home button below the display could double as a fingerprint sensor. The power button and the volume rockers were spotted on the right side of the device while the USB Type-C port was flanked by two speaker grille on the bottom of the device.
So far, rumors have settled on the two variants of the Mi 6 in terms of display size. Two models which could be of 5.15-inch and 5.7-inch screen size will be named as the Mi 6 and the Mi 6 Plus respectively. The dual rear camera setup will be tacked on with the Mi 6 Plus. The Mi 6, however, will have to make peace with a single rear camera module.
In the latest leak, it is revealed that the rear camera of the Mi 6 will feature Sony IMX400 sensor. Earlier, rumors had pegged the rear sensor of the Mi 6 to be of Sony IMX386. In that way, it is an upgradation. However, it is not certain if the larger variant the Mi 6 Plus will pack two Sony IMX400 sensors or two different kinds of sensors.
Talking about the specs, the Mi 6 is expected to be fueled by a 3,000mAh battery. As for the memory configuration, the smaller variant is likely to have 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. Whereas, the larger variant the Mi 6 Plus is supposed to have 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Both models will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. Interestingly, in some quarters it is speculated that there could be a third variant as well having Helio X30 SoC under the hood.
Moving on to the launch time frame, the device was initially said to be launching in the month of April. However, fresh reports suggest that the launch could be pushed back to May. The possible reason ascribed to the supposed delay is the availability of Snapdragon 835 SoC.
It must be noted that Samsung has an exclusive deal with Qualcomm for receiving the initial batch of Snapdragon 835 SoCs for its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship. The Galaxy S8 is slated to go on sale towards the end of April. The rest of the smartphones from different vendors will only be shipped with 835 SoC after the Galaxy S8.
