OnePlus 5 registrations up in China even before the official unveil
Strange as it may sound, but the OnePlus 5 is up for preorder in China even before the handset is officially launched. As per reports, the registration for the smartphone is underway on JD.com as well as more recently on OppoMart. Touted as "flagship killer" the OnePlus 5 is set for a worldwide launch on June 20 and in India on June 22. The smartphone is expected to ship with a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB/8GB RAM and dual rear camera setup.
As we know, the hotly anticipated OnePlus 5 is slated to launch on June 20 globally while in India it will be unwrapped on June 22. But even before the handset has become official, the opening of registrations for the device has been kicked off in China on JD.com and OppoMart. If the amount of registrations is any indication, OnePlus has already gotten off to a flier.
Although not all the registrations translate into actual sales, still it points at the level of the customers' interest in the device. Opening the gates for the registrations well before the official announcement of the smartphone is a smart strategy on the part of OnePlus to create a hype. Nonetheless, it also suggests that post the launch, the OnePlus 5 will possibly be up for grab in a short time.
The OnePlus 5 has already made its trek to Geekbench as well as GFXBench benchmarking websites revealing the specs. Moreover, the back panel design showing off dual camera setup was leaked recently. Fresh on the heels, OnePlus 5 CEO, Pete Lau, shared a camera sample of the device that suggested a monochrome lens out of the two rear sensors.
The listing on the OppoMart reveals that the OnePlus 5 will offer a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, which, however, differs from full HD resolution indirectly hinted by the company. Powering the device will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC but it is expected to be an octa-core chip rather than the quad-core listed on the OppoMart. The listing shows a 6GB RAM along with 64GB and 128GB internal storage, however, an 8GB RAM variant is also in the offing.
On the camera front, two 12MP sensors will form the dual camera setup at the back while on the front the handset will tack on an 8MP selfie camera. OppoMart has already given away that the dual camera setup is built in a tie-up with DxO Mark. For the resolution, it was expected earlier that the rear setup will include 16MP+20MP sensors.
The OnePlus 5 will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat and as per the rumors, the power source for the handset will be a 3,300mAh non-removable battery. NFC, as well as Bluetooth 5.0 support, is also expected. No concrete information about the price of the handset is known as yet, but rumor has it, the price will start from $479 (Approx. Rs.31,000) for the base model.
