Hindustan Motors Contessa – An Insight!
The HM Contessa was one of the few models which most, if not all can call a true masterpiece. It was during the 1970 phase when HM was looking for one model which replaces The Ambassador as the face of the company. Entering into the modern era, the Modernistic Model Contessa fitted into their scalability plans pretty aptly.
It was in 1984, which the 1st series of the Contessa introduced into the Indian mass market. Taking up design cues from the ever - popular Vauxhall VX series of 76'-78' it did prove as a first-rate choice amid government officials.
The 1st series of Hindustan Motors Contessa did lag behind from its engine performance point of view. However, with a top speed of 125 km/h and with 54 HP of output, buyers were pretty much content with what they were getting as an overall package.
Resembling somewhat to a compact Sedan model, this 5 sitter hosted an impressive direct injection OHC fuel system. It's Isuzu Engine, and 5-speed forward manual transmission also notched up noticeable attractions in its targeted market.
The company managed to attract more popularity when it launched a diesel variant of their Contessa owing to the high petrol prices in India. Embodying an adequate muscle car, the Contessa also with power steering, central armrests on seats and central locking feature.
Stopping power of this vehicle was also quite impressive owing to its vacuum assist disc brake up front and drum brakes at its rear end. All these specs made the model ahead of time in the Indian mass market resulting in amazing acceptance amid potential buyers.
Apart from its comfortable riding experience, another chief USP of the Hindustan Motors Contessa was its splendid design language. Embodying Classy and Aggressiveness, the Contessa consisted of an elongated body for more accommodation. Its muscular grille, side impact body protection, large crumples zone and radial all terrain tires all deemed perfect for buyers.
Furthermore, its cabin was luxurious with non-slippery jack hard upholstery and PU molded seats. Plush carpeting, wooden dash, and spaciousness gave this model the exclusivity purchasers wanted in their commuters.
